Wow that looks really bad(to me). Can you get video of the other end and do the same thing to get an idea what the tierod on the knuckle is doing?

It doesn’t make a damn bit of sense for anyone thats worked on any form of steering system(especially a frigging dealership with “trained” techs) to say this is normal by any means.

Whats the amount of olay in the steering wheel? 2-3”??
Alright this shows both sides, sort of, phone was balacing on my hat so it was kind of difficult haha. At about 9 seconds when the draglink first starts to move you can almost see it flex a very small amount before the tire moves. As far as steering wheel movement As soon as i move the steering wheel the gearbox will move the pitman arm but theres no actual tire movement for about an inch or 2. Mind you my gearbox is brand new and is way better than my last one. Im thinking the draglink is getting too much flex between the ball joints and the bar its self. I also retorqued everything. Some of them were looser than specs called for.

I have a 1948 Dodge Power Wagon. I rebuilt the front end with all new components and it was fine for about a year, then one day I got the death wobble... I checked everything, alignment, etc, with no solution... until I checked my tire pressure. It was in the low 20s. My tires are 35 inches tall; most of the people experiencing this also have tall tires, KO2,s and such. Tall tires are heavy, have a lot of rotating mass, and a lot of sidewall that can flex. I believe you should run more tire pressure to stiffen up the tire. So, as an experiment try running 50 psi and see if there is an improvement. It fixed my problem. If it helps you can try 45 psi, 40, etc.

We used our GoPro to start documenting our death wobble. Occurred 8 times in 17 miles while taking our son to school today. I’ve decided to park it until I can get replacement parts.

Specs are 19 JLUR built date late 11/2018
3.5 MC GC Rocksport
MC belly, rear diff, fad skids
MC front drive shaft
Cooper 37/12.5 at 26 psi
Mopar sim beadlocks

Here’s the video. Only happens between 30-55. Smooths outs at 60

Have you checked into Lemon Lawing it?
No. Haven’t been to the dealer yet. It’s has 1700 miles on it and has been lifted with 37s. I’d rather fix it and upgrade everything while I’m at it. Have all the confidence that steer smart will be the solution. I miss driving it

Brett I just installed my steer smart drag link and tie rod with lower mount, seems to have cured my minor wobble. I already had Rock Krawler track bar. I never had the sloppy steering box. Either I am loosing my mind or the stock parts were not strong enough with 37’s and my set up/abuse, the steering definitely feels firmer. I am still running stock stabilizer.

Also it Seemed strange That The tie rod and drag link other than the Pitman arm just fell out. I am used to hammering those out.

Since you didn't need to hammer those out, did the new drag link make the tires respond quicker / tighter when turning the steering wheel versus the previous drag link? I would think it would at least have change it some.

Man I’m really hoping this is the ticket. I miss driving the Jeep and ready to get it right. Next step will be hydro steering or take it back to stock and let the dealership jack with it. That’s the last option though

Just dropped mine off for gears and the steer smarts.. If mine is done before yours I'll make sure to come back with a review and say neener neener neener mines done before yours. Lol

Lemon law doesn't work when you make extensive modifications like this. No way you can prove the modifications aren't the cause or that they affected other stock parts. One reason I do not modify the suspension and steering on my Jeeps. Plus I would need a step ladder to get in and out, then I would need a roof rack to store the ladder, and then one of those hinge steps to get to it on the rack, and on and on.

There is a brand new part number as of now - Link Rod. It goes into the pitman arm. #5 Below. Old number is 68258760 AB is now 68258760 AD.

My friend and I both bough JK's at the same time. His had the death wobble and mine didn't. He never could figure it out. One day he got new tires and the problem went away. He replace the tires with the exact stock Goodyear tires.

Yes and no. A lift, mopar wheels and larger tires don’t necessarily scream extensive modifications. I could take it to the dealer but don’t want to deal with substandard oem equipment and want to upgrade. They sell lifted jeeps and don’t turn them away when there are problems

I never had any steering box slop, meaning if I turn the wheel a smidge and the tires moved, but it seems tighter more responsive, maybe it will ride rougher on wash boards.

I'd like to see an independent survey of how many steering/suspension problems are on lifted Jeeps versus stock. They should have changed the JL to IFS then DW wouldn't exist.

I agree with Bret, come the std suspension parts are for gas mileage. Glad the beefed up the axles. Not sure about the aluminum c ring/knuckles.

The Rick krawler parts, and Metal cloak parts are way beefier than mopar parts. Mopar sells a 2 inch lift closer to 3 and not enough adjustment in arms to make it work.
