What's your caster set at, out of curiosity?
Caster is set at 6

I just got back from swapping out the MC track bar for the factory one. Test drive started out good and then here comes ole reliable DW. Could barely make it home. Kept it around 20. Anything faster and it would start again. I’m getting sick of this.

Ordering a full steering set up from smart steer in the morning. Should get it by next Wednesday

Oh yeah. You can see it getting tossed around pretty bad too. It’s a mess. These are happening for us around 40-50 typically. I can’t imagine those that it happens to going 60-70. On the bright side we are desensitized to DW much in the same way I am to black widow spiders. We get them all over and don’t even give them a second thought anymore. Just smush it and go on.

I was wanting to do a snorkel or something fun for $1400 but instead I’ll have a rock solid Jeep that we can drive again. If this fixes my Jeep (which I’m betting $1400) then we will be offering this in our shop for others. It’s an expensive fix but once you’ve experienced this and your vehicle is modified it’ll be an easy check to write

I have to think something else is contributing to the DW.. If 20+ mph creates the oscillation, something else has to be loose, worn, or defective from the factory? It would seem the Steer Smarts would also mask a defective part unless it's drag link ends that are bad? Track Bar welds... brace?

I hope you get this fixed... I can only imagine how frustrating it must be!

I didn’t have death wobble just some steering wheel shake when hitting bumps with just 1 tire when going > 35 mph. I put Steer Smarts trackbar, tierod and draglink Assy on my 2 dr Rubi and no longer experience this. I ran without a steering stabilizer for 2 weeks. Today I installed my stock steering stabilizer. Everything feels solid.

I hope those experiencing DW have a similar experience.

That sux. I'm sure I'm going to have to deal with this at some point running 37's and unbalanced beadlocks.

I'm curious though....what's in this "kit" that supposedly fixes the problem?

To me, the sure fix is ram assist. Pricey, but the side benefit is being able to steering with one finger in the rocks with the lockers on.
Man I hope you don’t. Like all things sometimes it’s works, sometimes it doesn’t. I should’ve known I’d deal with it. If something can go wrong, it will with us. Nothing is ever simple for some reason.

The “kit” is basically every part that steer smart sells. Track bar, tie rod, drag link, track bar support, SS relocation bracket and mount. I talked to the redneck ram crew. He told me his kit wouldn’t fix our problem. Find the issue and if we need more power in the rocks to get with him.

It’s been tested no less than 3 times. What else could it be? Only thing I haven’t put a wrench on is the actual steering box. Might not be a bad idea but when moving the wheel with the engine off it’s all tight. I’m half thinking about going back to stock suspension and see if it’s still there. Lemon law it if I have to. I’m getting sick of this. I know a lift changes geometry but this isn’t usable. I need to see if anyone local has some stock tires I can try. Maybe the big meats are being problematic.

That looks great. I hope this is the solution. I’m ordering two kits. One for me and one for a friend of mine that’s having a nightmare with her newly lifted Sahara

What’s the steering wheel feel like when tbis is happening? I’d assume it’s very obvious.

It’s just shaking back and forth. You have very little control at the time. It’s not violently whipping drastically back and forth but just rapid turns the width of what the wheels are doing. You can hold it as tight as you can and it won’t make a difference. It’s a very helpless feeling. I will say know that I’ve been thru it probably close to 40-50 times it’s not dramatic but rather just an inconvienence. If we lived in town where there was lots of traffic that would be a different situation

Reason I’m asking is because I notice small and minor wheel vibration after I hit bumps sometimes. BUT, I just and still figure it’s due to the type of suspension this vehicle has. This is my first wrangler (but not my first Jeep)

I believe that’s bump steer. DW is very noticeable.

Mine with 2.5 RK lift full xfactor and 37’s just started getting a minor wobble at 45 mph, my steer smart stuff just arrived hopefully I will get it installed this weekend. I have almost 9000 miles, but it didn’t start until desert dune running with razers and motorbikes.

Give your steering wheel a slight pull and watch the tires. If the tires move with slight steering movement, I would think the steering box is ok. The steering box issues I believe are slop in the system. I think your on the right track replacing the light weight steering components. There has been at least 1 stock tie rod failure posted here.

I had this on a Honda motorcycle once at 70 mph was told the speed limit was only 50mph so no problem because the techs were not allowed to drive at that speed. I finally got one to do it off record and it scared the crap out of him. I worked about a mile down the street and just started parking my bike next to the hwy with a large lemon sign on it. The threatened me if I did not remove sign and I threatened them if I got in a bad accident because of it. Two weeks later they traded me a new bike for it!

Good luck with it. I'm surprised to hear that Redneck Ram said it wouldn't fix the problem. Their assist must have some sort of bypass mode.
If the issue is in the tie rod the hyd ram can’t fix it. I was impressed with his honesty but if I spent $800 on his kit and still had the problem I’d be frustrated. That said, I will use his kit if we get to that level of modding...which is beginning to look possible
