Lock up on pavement, unlocks in sand and snow. Error code after error code. Dealer can’t fix because they cannot duplicate problem. I just want a simple rocktrc 4:1 case, not this “upgrade” To be honest it’s just a budget alternative to Toreson center differential to achieve awd.How is the durability of MP3022 transfer case given the power and torque from the 392? Isn't it the same unit in Jeep Liberty?
Not everyone needs or wants full time 4WD. It may be desirable to have RockTrac as an option.
Lol a little bitter In the grand scheme of things replacing it with an atlas isn’t a bad option?A v8 wrangler with problematic cost cutting budget alternative clutch pack transfer case.
whats the fix?it’s on my mind for a while already. At least we got an fix.
Love my 2021 JLR on 37's but I'm building a 23 JLUR on 43's. The 392 JLUR is $26K more than the 2.0 T, and I much prefer the turbo. I've owned a 66 chevy 1/2 ton with a 400 small block that would blow the doors off a 392. I get it, HP is fun. There was a huge loose dirt hill that my 66 chevy was the only 4 WD that could make it to the top, that's because I could spin my sand paddles fast enough they acted like propellers. HP is a huge advantage in loose dirt or sand. But given that's' 2% of my wheeling, I much prefer the 2.0 T with the 4:1 xfer case. I've got a 72 big block corvette that I used to auto cross, so the 392 brick is a joke compared to the vett. Not sure why it is “overrated”.
Not sure what isn’t overpriced these days. To me that is why a 75k Jeep, what MSRP was when I bought mine, isn’t much more than something else. For all the options that it is loaded with it is comparable. But for an off road rig it is too expensive for some people to risk damage. To others it is not too expensive to wheel with it.
I'm looking at ordering a new F-600 4x4 to carry my JLUR and tow a trailer, and it's only $55K. BTW, I'm also a diesel hater. To me it is a Jeep that I use for places my diesel truck can’t go. A 1-ton truck that can haul loads I carry is $100k+ similarly equipped to a 392. So that is pretty “over-priced” also .
Interseting, that is what I was shopping as well manual 5BW. I also was looking at 4pot manual Bronco and G80 M3 manual..I was considering to buy a CT5-V BLACKWING at one point, then the Jeep392 won. In the end, it's more practical and badass.
I actually also looked into BMW M5 CS. Total beast but much higher price tag.Interseting, that is what I was shopping as well manual 5BW. I also was looking at 4pot manual Bronco and G80 M3 manual.
THIS!I came real close to buying a 392, and was able to talk myself out of it. By all accounts I think it sounds awesome and the speed is alluring. Ultimately I don't think this motor should be in a jeep wrangler at all. I think it fits a niche for folks who would never want to offroad it, and even though it is capable offroad, I feel like the motor does become a hinderance in some instances.
On road it eats gas like a 392 should. Put it all together and it is a lot of money for something that ultimately just becomes a niche vehicle (Even more so than a jeep already is). I think over time most folks will get over the excitement of the motor, and then you're left with what to do with it now.
