The 4xe has hardcoded gearing limited to 4.5, so 4.56 gears would be OK. 4.88 or 5.13's cannot be corrected. So, if you plan to go to 40inch tires, choose something else.People have different plans for how they plan to use and modify their Jeeps. 4xe isn't a great platform for heavier modifications. The biggest example is re-gearing. The computer in the 4xe won't accept re-gearing past some threshold - I think it's 4.30 but could be mistaken.
There are some youtubes of folks doing 4xe Rubicon crawling. Throttle control is problematic; basically you have to engage the 4xe's crawl-control mode (not sure what it's called) to creep over difficult obstacles.
I've found that throttle response when crawling in electric mode is smooth, but when the engine fires up it's a little harder to properly control the torque. I think this is more due to the turbo 4 than the integration with the electric motor. The V6 was silky smooth but limited in power while the turbo 4 had significantly more power, but also typical turbo lag. I love my 4xe, but for a serious, dedicated rock crawler, I'd suggest going with the normally aspirated V6 or V8. The 4xe is heavy, too, about 1 large passenger (200Lbs) over the 392. For a daily driver, the 4xe really shines due to the extra power from the electric motor and potential to save gas if charged daily and driven shorter distances.
I ordered my 4xe back in Nov of 2020; received it in May of 21 and received the $7500 tax credit this year.
