I could tell you, but then....
I learned that when driving in the rain with the doors and top off the rain goes every direction, including up, when caught in the vortex created by swirling wind in the cabin (I’d never had rain go up my nose before.)

Second to this I learned what not to say when told that turning the wipers on faster will help with the rain that has now hit the INSIDE of the windshield… because rain falling while driving in an open Jeep isn’t the only thing that can give you cold shoulders.

I learned that wrangler people who drive around topless and get rained on, and then get mad and complain about it, have only themselves to blame! 😂

I accept the consequences of my topless actions.

I learned that everyone was right—I thought I’d avoid it for the most part. But once you get one major mod everything else starts to follow. Finally got bigger shoes (37’ with a 3 3/4” lift) and all the mods have started. Just added some LOD signature series rock sliders. Need new inner fender liners, new fenders, underbelly protection. Oh—-and let’s not forget changing my control arms out to adjustables. Plus—fixing the loose components in the front when I decided to use a rock as my break. (Bumped a little too hard up a rock and it lifted me off the seat so much my foot came off the break and I couldn’t stop and ran into a rock—-ouch!)

Oh my this could be the longest post I’ll ever make. The list of things I’ve learned owning Jeeps, from shitbox Cherokees to zj, FSJ, WJ, and now our JLUR could fill a novel. First, creative fixes.
You can shim a worn out tie rod end with a strip of aluminum from your favorite beverage and wheel for another 4 days (floppy steering on the way home required a new shim).

When you and your brother in law both forget jumper cables, placing the dead battery right next to the running vehicles battery will allow speaker wire to work as trickle charging cables.

2 wagoneers with automatic transmissions, one starter grenades. You can remove the starter from the running vehicle (careful not to angle it toward the flex plate) and start the other rig.

When you grenade a turbo 400 at the bottom of a ravine in a massive wagoneer on 42’s, you can find another trans on Craigslist, wheel out in another rig, drive 8 hours, change a trans without a floor jack(they are heavy and it feels like your wife moves in slow motion getting the bolts started in the bell housing), and be ready to roll by the next morning.

Caving in your door while making it up a tough obstacle that required some momentum with a crowd cheering feels equal and opposite to caving in the new door on the same obstacle that stuffs you so hard you explode your trans (see story above), no crowd, no cheers, just drag it back down to a campsite and do way to much work.

An xj steering box can be rigged up with a u-bolt through the unibody in a pinch.

There is one way to kill a 4.0L, hydro locked in a mud hole at about 4K rpms. The number 1 and number 6 rods punched holes in the oil pan and the block.

A built WJ gets more attention on the rubicon trail than any wrangler or xj we’ve owned.
Jeep Wrangler JL Things you have learned the Hard way about owning a Jeep. 9065C77D-7BD8-41C2-AFB0-C01D48F271F8

A new JL is leaps and bounds better on and off road than any vehicle we’ve ever owned. The really built ones were marginally better off road and nearly undriveable on road. The WJ when it was stock was better on road, it was a limited and those leather seats were amazing. It had the 4.7L so it was fun to drive and sounded gobs better than our JL.

Buying a new Jeep may be more expensive than building, but from ease of use, to reliability, to fuel economy, to capability it is much more enjoyable and relaxed.

I‘ll cut myself off there, but I could go on forever

A few things:

1. There is no medication for “Jeep envy”

2. At a certain age, the excitement upon receiving a new Quadratec or other such catalog vastly exceeds the excitement of receiving a Playboy or other such magazine

3. The same skills used to rapidly switch web pages to hide the porn you were looking at when your mom walked in the room are used once again to hide the online Jeep parts pages when your wife walks in the room

I have had my wife say how about you surf Porn hub and stay off the Jeep pages and Amazon for a few days.

The struggle is real.

2 door with manual locks is totally fine, 4 door is miserable. That’s what I’ve learned
Even though I've learned the precise position and direction of the rear locks on my 21, yes, you are correct. My 22 that is on the way has electric locks/windows. 🙂
