Theft Deterrent. Discuss

What is you opinion on a Wrangler with a visible steering wheel lock?

  • Good idea. Anything to slow down a thief, or make him move on to the next vehicle.

  • The thief or a random passerby is going to see it as a challenge, and target that Jeep specifically!

  • Waste of money. If the 'right' thief wants it, it's going to be stolen no matter what you do to it.

  • Why do you keep calling them thieves? No one says that.

Cops aren't doing anything to solve the problem and people are getting fed up with it. Same with cat converters.
What exactly are the cops supposed to do?

Thing is, that old Lambo probably was a PIA to start. Thhose old italian cars took a bit of love to get them to start when cold. If you want the best theft prevention, get an old air cooled 911 that has Mechanical fuel injection on it. There's a 100% chance you'll never get it started unless you know the trick. With old school German cars (like Italian) they never mark anything and just assume you read the owners manual. Then if you actually got it running (assuming the batteries could hold up on the minute or two of cranking) you'll never figure out how to turn on the heat. Better bring a parka.
I own a Diablo, so will disagree with every sentence you wrote. They are very sound mechanically, starts up like a bull every time.

Has anyone ever thought of bike chaining the brake and gas pedals together? Surprise!

Wow. This'll stop thieves from ... Yeah, I don't know. I'm not even sure if it would slow down anyone.

It's best to not give thieves any clues as to what they are facing to steal your Jeep. Yes, a club steering wheel lock can slow them down and maybe even deter a rookie.

My personal choice is to make all challenges hidden. Slow them down to a literal crawl and frustrate the best car thief out there.

I know from being a mechanic for many years that certain failed/disabled parts result in a no start event, even with a key in the ignition, a new battery and full tank of gas. Trouble-shooting and correcting the problems I can create are time consuming unless you know exactly where to look.

When I travel and use public parking, they better be master mechanics and bring specific spare parts with them to drive away in my Jeep.

You have insurance. Many agencies are dealing with crimes that involve losses not covered. This is not a new issue. I've had stolen vehicles (five total) in my lifetime and nothing has happened except in one case where my insurance got involved. It was three years in a victim program with endless delays, pleas, etc. Not worth it. Have great insurance, take precautions, and enjoy life.

multiple threads on theft but i’m kinda surprised there’s not a simple, jl specific, fuel pump kill switch video on youtube yet. yes, a pro thief might find a switch, but with the ease of carpet removal - what about a low profile switch under the carpet you just feel for? it would have to be out of the way for sure so it didn’t get accidentally toggled. or maybe inset within driver’s side sport bar above the door? yes, you could drag it up a flatbed but as others have said, layers of protection are good. just curious.

You'd think. Lol. But it doesn't. And the delaers her don't know how to turn it on. I've done it for about 15 jeeps in my local club. And installed hood locks.
Any tutorials or product recommendations to lock the hood with alarm? I see products like this, but nothing on how to engage the alert system.

I use JScan and change it with that.

Just pull the fuse for the obII power then they cant make a key.
They're not using the OBD port to make keys.

Every time I see "hood alarm," I think of these.

Go buy an old carb Lambo and then get back with me.
