Smittybuilt is owned by 4 Wheel Parts parent company Polaris. Most of it is built in China. Powder coating is marginal and will rust at the weld seams. My daughter had some SB on here JK. Saw a DV8 on a Rubicon at the dealership this weekend. Looked about the same quality as Smittybuilt. Was not impressed.

I ordered the new DV8 body mounted tire carrier. Supposedly not shipping until mid January.

I liked the look of their previous tire carrier for the JK, so I decided to run with this one. It's a little gaudy. But it should look really nice with a fastback soft top, which I am waiting on to be released.

Installed the EVO tire carrier and it helped with my backup sensor issue with my -12 offset wheels on the OE carrier. Install was simple enough even though the instructions aren't top notch. It fits nice and tight up to the tailgate for a rattle free ride. Only gripe is that removing and installing the passenger side tail lamp is a pain with the top hinge blocking it. I also want to find a better brake light mount, I just see trying to change a tire and having to remove those small T7 torx screws for the camera mount out in the field going horribly wrong.

Hey Tristan, thanks for the wiring links.
As for the 3rd brake light, I did a write up you might want to check out.
I did one of those "sun pies" behind the spare and used the factory tube and shroud to go over the camera.
I also did not like the fact I had to take off the light and camera.
Link is here if you're interested.

Again, thanks for the wiring links:

I did find your post, it was great and I plan to definitely try out the camera shroud trick!

@Motobilt Any update on the release date of the JL tire carrier?
I keep waiting hoping this will be released soon. I could just get the EVO one but Motobilts carrier will be stout and can carry a tire larger than a 37” tire, just Incase I decide to move up to a 40” tire.

@Motobilt would love to get an update on when this can be purchased.

Latest from Roam (via email) is that February is more realistic. They'll have some stock in January, but made it clear that February is when they'll have full stock.

Hopefully I can get in early. Have been on the preorder list for a long time now. Spare tire has been sitting in my shop. Worst case, what’s another month I guess.

DV8 RBJL-01 bumper with DV8 TCJL-06 bumper mounted tire carrier.

Finally got the tire carrier installed since I wasn’t going to put that heavy 37 on my tail gate.
First off I have to commend DV8 on the tire carrier build quality, everything is solid and lined up with ease.
Second DV8 why don’t you provide instructions????
Here are my recommendations to anyone who installs this. There are some pretty decent You Tube videos out there from other brands that will give you a good starting point. Take some of them with a grain of salt because this tire carrier still has its own quirks. For example, the spacing for the Heim joints you need to fill the gap with washers, and there’s no jam nut for the adjuster, my solution was to use the wing nuts as jam nuts since they fit perfect. There are 2 bolts on the back side of the tire carrier, I’ll assume that’s for a hi lift style jack and the wing nuts are for them.
I’d also recommend placing the plastic washers that come off the factory mounting bolts for the tire carrier and place them on the opposite side of the steel plate that mounts to the door between the paint and the new plate. The factory CHMSL lines up well but I had to slightly re route the wire to get that extra inch to fit the grommet back in the factory hole, zero wires cut here. The camera hole is so far away from the camera it greatly reduces the usable visibility, I’ll be modifying this as soon as I get a bigger step drill bit. I haven’t seen anyone else with this installed yet. Best of luck on your install if you got one.
