As many of you know my 2020 JLUR had A LOT of electrical and safety issues that could not be “fixed” at the dealership level and thus was just recently bought back by FCA.

So now I have to find a 2021 JLUR to replace it with. Wanted a 3.6 auto again, but the option to NOT have eTorque rules it out. Just way to complicated for the long haul and after the electrical hell I just went through.....no thank you. Want to keep things as simple (LOL) as possible.

That leaves me with the auto 2.0 turbo as my only viable option. I not overly thrilled with that, but it is what it is.

So again the age old question that has been asked a few times. What do you folks with the NON eTorque 2.0 turbo think of it? Not interested in hearing about other engines or how good the eToraque is or is not. I just don’t believe it has a place with me and/or in my use.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 2021 2.0 and overall I like it. I think it moves the Jeep well. When I drove a 2.0 and 3.6 back to back I personally felt the 3.6 felt slightly more refined but not enough to sway me. It doesn’t sound the best till it warms up. I am running 87 gas vs premium so that could contribute.

My 2.0L non eTorque turbo engine seems good so far. The turbo adds a lot of pep and gas mileage isn't bad. It probably won't have as long a life with the turbo as a more conventional engine; but, I didn't pay any extra for it and I actually want to see if I can get a GEN V engine swap, L84 or L87, at some point in the future anyway.

Why aren't you overly thrilled with the 2.0t? It's certainly not underpowered and it isn't phased by altitude. I'm always between 5-10k' and the 2.0t blows away the 3.6 up there.

As said by another poster it “feels less refined” and the engine tone is not overly satisfying, not that the 2020 3.6 was that great sounding but it did have a nice light “rumble” to it that my 2013 did not have. I am also a bit concerned about its long term reliability over many years and at least 150k miles. My JKU had for 150k miles on it and never had once had a hiccup of trouble.

I will admit my time is very limited in the 2.0l.. I test drove a very fresh 2.0. 2 door Rubicon in South Texas on a very hot and windy day. The 2.0 sounded and felt like it was struggling to maintain 75mph. I highly doubt it was running on premium.. but I wasn't impressed at all. Test drove the 3.6 2 door rubicon same speeds same day much more comfortable.. I ended up ordering a 3.6 2 door non Rubicon Manual transmission And I am no idea what to expect.

I'm well satisfied with the 2.0T (no eTorkees) in my 2021 JLU. That engine was ordered sight- and test drive-unseen, so to speak, after 3 test drives with 3 different Pentastars left me pretty underwhelmed.

It was a total leap of faith on my part, as there weren't any 4 cylinders available nor due in on the truck anytime soon. My engine choice is validated every time I drive the vehicle, both in terms of performance and fuel mileage. It's been fed only Premium fuel since the day I took delivery. The exhaust sound is fairly tame, but I've never been one to waste time chasing a sound that isn't in the vehicle's wheelhouse.

Fair credit must be shared with the superlative 850RE 8-speed transmission. That ZF unit is a winner, too.

My 2020 JLUR 2.0L turbo non etorque so far has given me 20K trouble free miles. It has towed my 4000 pound boat down to the water and back many times, it has towed my 20' flat bed hauler loaded down and when I am off the hard it gives me better response than any of the v6 engines I have had in other wranglers. Sound is not why I by a vehicle, if you want the sound of a v8 I guess you need to buy the 392, me I would not waste my money on that for sound. Of the 6 Jeeps I have owned I like this engine combined with the 8 speed auto the best for all round every day use.

Different perspective (admitting I don’t know about the previous issues you eluded to):

No matter what engine you get, you still end up with a relatively complex electrical system tied to it. Why not get the engine that you actually want instead of one you feel will be less complicated? Perhaps you’ve already considered this but I figured I’d offer my thoughts anyway.

Sorry to hear you had issues with your previous JL. Either way, I hope this one works out better. :like:

Have a 2021 Sahara with the 2.0 non e-torque, about 8k miles. I absolutely love it. As others have stated it may sound a little un-refined but it has plenty of go power and it loves to cruise. I average 22/24 mpg mixed city/hi-way. I ordered it without led light, and all the other high priced electronics. &' screen no back-up alarm or forward cruise control, no gps. I would suspect it would perform the same in all models. The 8 speed auto is superb.

I respect your "get back on that horse and f'king ride it". I'd do the diesel, oh wait I see you are in Cali also and probably don't want to be treated like a criminal by the DMV. Hope your next Jeep is perfect.

My 2.0 is awesome matesd to the 4xe transmission. Heck, dive right back in. What's the chance of getting 2 electronic nightmares in a row?

No kidding its tough being behind the socialist curtain of the republic of “Comifornia” especially with our current gas price averaging $4.00 a gal for 87.

Would love a diesel on 37s for no other reason, just because it will piss off the 30 something age Tesla owners that think they are saving the planet.

I have to be a little more careful with my purchases as this will be my last Jeep until retirement 🤞🤞. But hell with the current state of the US it might also be my last Jeep ever so it has to be able to last.

Jeepless but still a fan.
I have a non etorque 2.0 in my 2020 JLUR. Zero issues with it aside from a door handle that had to be replaced under warranty because the chip for the keyless failed. The engine itself: superb. I enjoy how I can nudge it along without a lot of skinny pedal and get great mileage, and getting on it to really spool the turbo produces great power for how heavy the damn jeep is. Off road, great torque.

No issues whatsoever with the 2.0 turbo non Etorque.

21 JLUR here with 2.0. I was hesitant about getting it also and on test drive didn't want to really stomp on it.
Now, after 2000kms, I I am really impressed with it. She hauls when you need it to, and gas mileage is great. I'm running 91 Octane and in town I get about 18 mpg and on highway 20mpg. Steel bumpers and winch are only mods affecting weight.

If I have any complaint, it's that there is a bit of a turbo lag. I came out of a Focus RS though so comparing that motor to this one is going to have some major differences. Also have a Range Rover Evoque and that thing felt like it was a 1 cylinder.

All in all, very happy with 2.0.
