On the eve of my 3 year membership here, I'm just getting around to formally introducing myself. Hello everyone, my name is Mike.

I'd like to start off by thanking all the usual suspects around here, including those who have fallen inactive. I was lurking in the shadows for months, reading and learning, before finally joining. I credit you all for providing myself and countless others with vast knowledge, friendly banter, lots of Jeep porn, and a captive audience that never tires of JL talk. That last one is very much appreciated by some of my friends and family. Hahaha! Thank you so very much!

My 2019 JLUR was factory ordered with the 2.0/8-speed and fully loaded. It's my first Jeep and the only personal vehicle I've ever lifted or modded to this extent. My goal with it is building it up for crawling obstacles and being able to carry some speed through the trails in between, while still using it as my daily driver. But first I wanted to drive it stock, so I have it about 10k shakedown miles.

Being a noob caused me to underestimate what could be done to the JL, without turning it into a dog. That lead to my original plan of not going bigger than 315/70-17 BFG KO2's. Not wanting more 1fender clearance than what's needed to clear full stuff, brought me to the Dynatrac Endurosport true 2" kit. The Mopar starter kit, by comparison, seemed to dwarf 35's. Not at all agreeing that geometry would remain intact and wanting to beef things up to handle the increased leverage forces that come with larger lift and tires, i decided to fill in what was missing. I went with SteerSmarts for the front track bar, drag link, tie rod, front sway links, and relocation brackets for a Fox TS stabilizer. And Synergy for all 8 CA's, rear track bar, reinforcement brackets for both ends of the track bar, and the front track bar reinforcement/sector shaft brace (never installed and being replaced with SteerSmarts). All installed by myself, and it drove and handled spectacularly.

Here's the rub. What I had thought would be an acceptable amount of loss in the giddy up, was practically non existent. The seed of regret, to not having gone bigger, was planted. Long before racking about 15k miles on that setup, the hedge had grown higher than the Jeep itself. That's when I started revisiting the kit that I had drooled over and read many great things, back when my Rubi was a factory newborn. The Metalcloak's 3.5" Gamechanger 6-pack edition. While researching what I did or didn't need I was able to score a 20% off deal, through an off road association I joined, for a full set of 38x13.50 Milestar Pat's. I paired them with a set of KMC XD138 Brutes 17x9x4.53 b.s -12mm offset, which would play well with the Gamechanger.

I didn't need the full kit because steering, track bars, and control arms were already taken care of. I ordered the 6-packs, 3.5" dual rate coils, front upper/lower and rear lower shock relocation brackets, front coil pads, front drive shaft, and rear sway links. I chose to go with the Rock Krawler No Limits front sway links, thanks to a recommendation from Roky :like:, so as to avoid any possible bind from the flex that Metalcloak's known for providing.

Finally, it's about damn time, I get to some pics. They are pretty close direct comparisons of stock, stock with 35's, 2" lift and 35's with chopped front fenders, 2" lift and 38's with chopped f&r fenders, and 3.5" lift and 38's with chopped f&r fenders. I only have one sun glared side shot of 2" lift and 35's with full fenders that I'll add.

Looks great - and I like the color combo...same as mine :). Thanks for sharing! I have a 2” lift and 315/70/17...so I understand what you are saying. That said if I want to stay married there will be no more upgrades for a while....

Thanks!

My wife's only 4' 10.5", so I got the "wtf" from her after putting the 38's under the 2" lift. I responded by bumping the step sliders to the top of the priority list. That made it easier for her to get in and out. Now over the last week of having the higher lift, she's back to giving me dirty looks whenever she rides with me. It takes near everything I've got to keep a straight face while she's getting in. :CWL:

Last night, my wife and I ran out to pick up some food. When we got there I told her to stay put and I'd run in to grab it. She says thanks babe. I said no worries it's too short of a ride back to have to repack your chute, so save it for when we get home. She was still giving me that scowl that doesn't fully hide the smile when I got back in.

As we were walking from the Jeep to our front door, she commented about how she could nearly get the whole word "geronimo" out before her feet could hit the ground. Because I'm such a glutton for punishment, I told her how easy it would be to fix that with a set of 40’s and 4.5" coils. My shoulder being sore 24 hours later reminded me about her 2nd degree black belt.

@ChattVol
I didn't want to derail the other OP's wheel offset reference thread, so here we are in my own thread, meant for going where the road takes us.

I just recently switched lifts, from Dynatrac's 2" to Metalcloak's 3.5". It wasn't until i was stripping parts that I realized I didn't order replacement bump stop spacers. So I'm currently driving around with none, but should have them in hand by mid week.

Off roading is illegal in New York, go figure, so I'm limited to heading out of state during my winter off season to really get to play. Here's a couple pics of my previous 2" lift, taken while at work. Business is already slowing down. The front bump stop was just about fully loaded, but the rear was just lightly kissing. This was with 2" spacers from the Dynatrac kit Front and rear. I could've gotten the front tire another +-4" off the ground, but the rear was hitting the pinch seam. Otherwise, no other rubbing and lots of extra space in the front.

Next up, is trimming the rear pinch seams and the front fender brackets and install a few 1" spacers all around. I have a machine with a fork attachment at work to exercise it. I'll take more pics, and closeups this time, to better serve as a reference. Since you're interested, I'll page you when I post them in this thread.

Yeah, I don't start threads too often so I figured I'd get a bit more in depth in this one. At least it's not a wall of text.

I searched a long time for a set of 5-spoke wheels that tickled my fancy. Once I found these, there was no further looking. I like the 2 step bead and the hidden lugs. Thanks KZ!

Looking good so far. I’ll be creeping this thread to check on your progress.
Thanks Kevin! More creeping the merrier! :bandit: Haha! Maybe this thread will hit page 2 and set a personal record.
