I run 91 all the time. We only have 85 or 91 at Costco. I sure as hell won’t run 85. Ever.
Same here but always curious about 85 since 85 acts like 87 at altitude. I mean all other 87 octane gas vehicles use 85 all the time around here with no issues.

wondered this as well here since we have 85 as our lowest. The altitude makes the higher octanes less effective ( if i read that right). i still run the 87 just because but worth a thought

The equation changes with a turbo though as you're no longer running "at altitude" since the turbo is compensating for the altitude loss to a good degree. For a NA engine, 85 is like 87 at sea level I suppose but I don't think that necessarily hold true with forced induction.

That being said, I did run 85 in my 2.0 this tank because it's cold and I'm not towing and I'm not going over any mountain passes. Seems to run fine, no knocking, etc.

If one hears any detonation they better get it to the dealer asap cause you got issues Lucy. Like was posted above, the computer monitors the engine and has knock sensors that will send info to the ECU which in turn will pull timing to eliminate any detonation. Detonation in a turbo engine is NOT pretty.

The 2021 Owners manual recommends 87, with higher octane suggested for towing/extra power.

You might want to do some research on turbos and altitude and octane before you start using 85 octane all the time in a forced induction engine. At any elevation.

Just picked up my 2021 and have only used 93 octane so far. Good to know 87 is giving some people better MPG. I'll have to give it a try!

2019 Here and read the manual. I run 87 when I'm in the city and the temperature is nice and cool. When taking my Jeep offroad or putting her to work on mountain passes I like to take 91 for the (extra added) power. I find she runs better with 91 and also it's more of a peace of mind thing for me.

Didn't seem to have any noticeable impact, but I am going to try and always use at least mid-grade (87) or premium (91) in Colorado. If I go to Sams or Costco they only have 85/91, so i get 91 as it's the same price as 87 everywhere else generally.

91 is the highest available at the stations I use in my neck of the woods. I used 91 first couple fill ups & went to 87 after that as I knew I would. My average mpg is almost 25 using a soft foot.

Detonation is completely normal according to the other octane threads.
Some is going to happen. But if it is not keep in check, catastrophic failure WILL occur. I know, it has happened to me.
