So we were also given the option of getting a credit for the cost of the soft top, so I assume folks would use that to buy it from mopar or their local dealer. Craig said he was seeing if jeep would pay shipping from Koons to those out of state, but I don't know what answer he got on that.
If I was given this option, I would take it in a second! Glad you guys have some options.

So, since we have no end date, how many of you have your financing worked out? I haven’t bothered because it’s good for 30 days, right? At least that’s what my bank told me when I inquired about financing. If you haven’t, when will you get it in order?
Will do that for plan b financing after I get a ship date. Assuming I can get an appointment and finance in hand in less than a week.

This is what FCA just emailed my dealer:

I know the email that you copied the customer saying he wanted it but we need you to send an email saying the customer wants the vehicle shipped without the soft top. As it says below, you will have to file a shortage and error warranty claim to get the soft top, it will not ship automatically. Or, it has been 2 weeks already and if they are saying 5 weeks does the customer want to wait those extra 3 weeks?

We are being advised that the soft top is going to be delayed about 5 weeks. If the customer wants the vehicle released now, then it arrives with no Soft Top and the dealer would file a shortage an error for the soft top. (It does not get shipped later).
We have about 10 of these and we elected to wait the extra 5 weeks for the soft top to be delivered with the vehicle. However, if the dealer/customer wants to make an exception on this one we can do so.

So, yes, shipment without the top is definitely an option.

I have not pulled the trigger on it yet. Will wait until Friday, my two week anniversary in JB.

Who is your dealer?

Chrysler/Jeep Ft Collins, Colorado. They did not exactly volunteer that info, it needed some pushing.
So, I’m guessing you did the pushing? Are they a high volume dealer? I just emailed my dealer and he said he’d talk to his GM tomorrow. Five more weeks is a long time, plus add shipping on top of that. Thanks for the information. :)

Yep, yours truly did the pushing. Don't think they are a super high volume dealer. They sent an email to their GM and that's what they got back. Other dealers apparently are more pro-active.

I think, though, that the 5 weeks started two weeks ago, so another 3 or so to go. Plus shipping, yes.

I don't want to give my dealer the opportunity to mess up the "error warranty claim", which would require even more pushing. So I may just wait it out. May as well drive my JK until the snow melts. For you, of course, it's already summer...

Aren't the soft tops all provided by Bestop? I thought I read on a Bestop thread that they said the back order had been all cleared up? And on Yakpimp's tracking page, he showed 19 new jeeps showing progress today, so maybe things are moving again?

Yes...always summer. Maybe I’ll ask (don’t laugh) Jeep chat about the top issue. If it is still 3 more weeks for the top, I’ll still have shipping to NC and then to Fl. I’m weighing my options, for sure.

So, if you’ve been offered this option of a later shipment of the soft top, what happens if you’ve purchased from an out of state dealer? Will they ship the top to you?
I purchased from Koons and Craig said they would have jeep pay the cost to ship the soft top to me in NC once it arrives. Given the situation, its about the best outcome. My jeep officially shipped today and should be here sometime next week!

I just chatted with Jeep Chat and Ankur told me the soft tops are back ordered until April. I asked if she was sure and she said yes. That could mean a possible late April or May delivery. Not crazy about that.
