The people getting these without their tops is a dealer with another build that will take the top and give it to the recent order and telll, or maybe not, the newest orders that there is a top shortage. Period. I don’t care what they say FCA will not ship the Jeep without the top and ship later. JMO
Who knows? You may be right. Honestly, anything can happen at this point.

I disagree. WIth my order I’ve had my VIN since mid-January. Based on the tracking on both the dealer site, jeep site, and jeep chat it is the same VIN. I will confirm once I take ownership on Friday but there is nothing to indicate that its another order they are “swapping”. Since I had the dual tops, the jeep with ship with the hard top and the soft top will be shipped later. I am buying out of town, so Jeep will ship to the dealer and then the dealer will ship it to me. It is likely that Jeep is only offering this to dealers with a large number of orders so that it is minimal cost for them to ship the soft tops later to the dealer and clear space at the factory. If the dealer only has a few dual top orders, it wouldn’t make sense cost wise to ship it without the top.

A friend of mine works for FCA corporate in Detroit and he said that they will not ship a vehicle unless the order is complete. Now that being said I do believe they may be in an extreme circumstance with more orders than anticipated and have decided to ship out soft tops later. Maybe this is only to large scale dealerships I don't know.

Either way I ordered with only premium soft top as I am not a fan of hard tops so I am screwed either way! :(

Sorry to hear that you are stuck but I am sure they wont ship it with no top ;). Hopefully its worth the wait. My theory is based on the large scale dealerships. It makes sense if you can clear 10-20 Jeeps out of your inventory at the factory and ship one truck with the soft tops later to that dealer. If its a few one off orders, its too costly to ship the soft tops separately. So FCA would keep the stance of “we dont ship without the order complete” with some exceptions on the side for the high volume dealerships to allow them to clear some inventory at the factory.

Very insightful. You may be onto something.

Yes that we can be certain of LOL. It is OK like I have said before at least I have my 2015 JK to bomb around in so I can wait. Excited for the new model but I can wait.

There is no way FCA is going to take on another shipping/product nightmare amongst 1000s and 1000s of orders and parts.

So, how do you explain the orders that are being shipped without the tops?

So They’re giving you your Jeep without a top then giving you the top later. So there’s no chance they ordered many JLs with dual top then give you yours from another order?

A couple people said they have friends in corporate as do I, and they said there is no way they ship the top later. Think of the logistics here. I hope they do for all that are waiting for no reason in the first place.

just see if you get your Jeep without your name on the window sticker without the top and look at what the dealer is saying on here. And look at hockey523. Got his soft top in 3 weeks.

The thought that this is all planned ahead with a number of vehicles they think they are going to sell and thinking they failed is also incorrect. This has been going on for a long time and it is called Just In Time Manufacturing.

Possibly those that have received their orders simply had those tops available at the time they "put the order together" which put their vehicle on the assembly line. With all of the options somebody like me may be sitting because of a part that they just don't have yet even if they have everything else.

Guys, literally drove 60 miles on MY JL today. My VIN, my window sticker, without my soft top. They are basically saying it was “lost” and doing a warranty replacement like “oops, it didn’t ship with it. Throw it on the next truck?” It is being sent as a replacement part, like anything else being shipped to the dealer day after day. Dunno what FCA thinks about it but Jeep is clearly in on it cuz the rep in Ohio is the one who reached out to Koons.
