Can i just cut this piece of plastic off? Does it have a function? Just want a better look until I decide on the new bumper/stinger...

took mine off and cut then put back on to keep fog lights covered up. used a utility knife with a sharp blade. scored it first then went deeper each time to get a clean cut. made about 5 passes each time. used 180 sandpaper to smooth the edges after that for a cleaner look

I've seen a lot of people using Dremels and such to do this. I cut mine off and found that a good sharp utility knife is much easier and leaves a cleaner edge. Take your time, and it'll turn out great.

You know if Jeep marketed this as an aftermarket part that would increase your MPG by 1 these would be flying off the shelf. Since its on there from the factory everyone wants them out.

If people were really concerned about +1mpg they wouldn't have bought a jeep

When we first got our 2-door Sport S I wanted to immediately cut those off. But since we're putting quite a few highway miles on the Wrangler, and looking at them, they do seem to make the boxy Jeep a little more aerodynamic, so I figured I'll leave them on there. It takes a bit away from the look of the vehicle, but if it improves gas mileage on the highway, I can live with the look.

YMMV.

Best,
-Tim

I dont think I did, these wouldn't be flying off the shelf.
Why do I feel like Foghorn Leghorn in a cartoon. “It was a joke son, a joke”.
