Here's hoping you get a quick resolution. Glad everybody was ok. Many of the trips we take have some sort of "moment." Something unexpected. A flat, a washout, a dead thermostat, a leaky tent...something always goes wrong. The folks in their Silverado had a "moment" of their own, and they'll always tell the story of the new JL that came out of nowhere and saved their asses.

I'm suggesting we think of these moments as part of the adventure. Not that we won't hold Jeep accountable for providing you with a reliable rig, but the way I think about it is that if no one was injured it's just another adventure story to tell.

Did you figure out what was wrong?

They're replacing some vacuum pump in mine with the traction control system light coming on. We'll see what happens.

Dealer didn't do anything for me and Jeep Cares told me there's nothing to do unless it happens again...
I haven't had any issues since but it's only seen pavement.

4Runner's have the wheel speed sensor issue occasionally too, but especially when an after market lift is installed and the sensor gets stretched to the point the wires get exposed to the elements and then all hell breaks loose.

This was a week or so ago, but I have an update to this issue.

After letting the JL sit for 3 days without being driven. I hopped in it and started it up. Dash lit up the same as before when I was on trail... The idle bounced up and down very strangely. I turned it off and back on, did it again. I turned it off and back on again, back to normal... Still had CEL that went away after driving for a bit. So odd.

Haven't taken it to the dealer, it's been driving fine for the last week. Makes no sense.

Grab a cheap code reader on amazon. Next time you can duplicate, pull the code before it clears and take a photo of the dash / scan tool. This way the dealer can't pull the "unable to duplicate" or "intermittent no problem found" tactic. If you take it in for 3 repairs and no fix its a lemon and they will be forced to replace it. You'll need more documentation then " i swear it happens" to get it fixed or replaced! Good luck!

Hi Butterybunz,

We are sorry to hear that you are having this experience. If you decide to take your Jeep to the dealer, please send us a message with your VIN and mileage so we can provide additional assistance while in service.

="JeepDrvr2018, post: 140813, member: 11165First the CEL code is a new one on me, but the freezing Wheel speed/sensor seems like the culprit. What I would have done it go out and disconnect the negative battery cable and wait one minute then put it back in place. Why, well, the Jeep has computers all over the place, that process in effect "reboots" them all, most likely would have cleared the issue. Would not have cleared any codes in system, but would have fixed that one I would bet.

I am new to Jeeps. I believe in rebooting the ecu, but I had a bad experience last year. A guy with a JK went thru some very liquid mud and his Jeep went into limp mode and of course a Christmas tree of lights. It was an automatic and would not shif and would not go above 2000 rpm. He had a long drive ahead of him and he was upset. I suggested to disconnect the battery to reboot the system. He did and went from limp to fully disabled. I felt like crap and felt responsible. Ended up giving him a ride and coming back with my truck and his trailer to pick up the Jeep. No good deed goes unpunished....

3 months later.... I started my JLU after work and it was in limp mode again with all the same CELs as the original issue. Brought it to the dealer and hope to have it back in a week or so.....

You are correct!

Side question. If it comes with the tow package, is there a different axle gear ratio on it like 3.73 or 4.10 or is it still 3.45?

We went through this with our 2005 Rubicon. It took many tries to fix it and yes we did. Regular garage tried twice and suggested local Jeep dealer. Local dealer had no idea. Finally took it a jeep specialist. All they work on is jeep. Finally after 5 tries and repairs ranging from free to $300 it got fixed. Once we got a set of codes which was after the third or fourth try we got most of the issue out then it set off code one more time and he did one more repair and it fixed it. It was speed sensor and something else. It took months to get those codes.

Dealer says they replicated the problem and it's a throttle position sensor failure. They have order the parts for replacement but have not given me an ETA for when it will be fixed.

After 2.5 weeks in service they concluded the throttle pedal, assembly and sensor failed. They installed a new one and we'll see if it happens again.
