Yes it matters if you drive 10 or 200 miles, they are not created equal. It's a weighted average.

20 mpg avg is (5000 miles / 250 gal) and 16mpg avg is (8000 miles/ 500 gal) the overall average is 13000/750 = 17.3 mpg

If you just did (20+16)/ 2 = 18mpg then it would be wrong

I own a "new" 2018 JL Wrangler with the 3.6l and 8 speed auto. At 2000 miles (three weeks ago) I changed the oil and headed from NH to South West Texas to my sons wedding. We drove secondary roads across VT, then the New York Thruway and I90 to Cleveland, then South to Nashville, and West to Texarkana, then South West to Alpine, TX. I'm giving this detail so you can see I drove mostly Interstates with high speed limits. Our trip was 2389 miles out and slightly longer on our return. We drove as fast as we could, typically 5 MPH over the speed limits, which in Texas can be as high as 80 MPH. We saw a low of just over 22 MPG and a high of just over 24 MPG.

I not sure the 2l does this well but would love to hear other reports of a similar long trip by a JL Wrangler with the 2l engine.

By the way I chose to drive the Wrangler because I wanter to do some Jeeping in Big Bend National Park. We drove another 600+ miles within the Park (It is a very large park).

I've owned 2 3.6l engines in a wrangler and never got close to 20 mpg doing 80mph. I would love to hear your driving technique. But i live in the Ozark hills and drive to Nevada quite a bit, again never seeing 20 mpg... the lowest i've gotten in my 2.0l has been 17mpg. waaaaaaaay better than the 3.6L.

Guys, WT.... I got an all time hyper mile high score. This was my morning commute from my home to work, and it is flat to downhill 18 mile leg.
This has not been confirmed at the pump, and I'm sure this could not be possible.
This is a bone stock JLU Sahara, 3 weeks and 2500 miles on it, 2.0t, 8spd auto, tire pressure is at 36/37, country roads with about 4 stop and go's, clear skis and a temp in the high 50ties.

Edit, 87 octane.

Well, you are only averaging 36.5 MPH. So I can see that mileage is possible.

Been driving my 2.0T since the end of February and has just about 2000 miles on it, all using at least 91 octane after the first tank of 87 put into it from the dealership. I do about 40 miles round trip to work, not a whole lot of driving on the weekends unless I take a trip across PA on the turnpike. My daily drive is all back roads with passive driving and I easily average 24 or 25 according to the Jeeps menu. Gotta love it for a box on wheels!:CWL:

I have a 2018 JLUR, 2.0 with stock suspension and tires, steel bumpers, and winch(just added less than 100 miles ago)

After 1300 miles, ~600 highway the rest city, I’m averaging 13.4 MPG! (calculated by the Jeep) One of the main reasons I chose the 2.0 was for the fuel economy but this seems like a 3.6L average. No, I didn’t expect the stickered 22-24 but I did expect it to be in the high teens and maybe over 20 on the highway.

What are you averaging? Thanks!

I am getting 19.5 mpg by the onboard computing for the total 1425 miles since I bought the jeep 2 months ago. This is the Rubi with 4.10 axles and stock 33" tires. Mostly in and around town with some highway. I am not crushed by this. I am not a soft pedal driver.

Love my 2.0t so it is what it is. v/r rch

Recently did a 500 mile trip. I averaged 21.6 by the computer for almost 400 miles but Fuelly is about .8 less. Then I let my heavy footed wife drive and it dropped nearly 2 mpg.

1. Give it another 2K for break in.

2. If you have a heavy foot....you are training the adaptive trans cont module to shift at higher rpm's. Higher shift points mean less mpg. You can reset the tran cont module by pulling the fuse for a minute, it resets the default shift points. Then drive with a light foot for awhile and see if it improves. Even my 2003 TJ had this feature and it would shift into high gear just driving in town when new. Over time it felt more peppy as the trans gradually adapted higher shift rpm due to quicker acceleration/more spirited driving. Guys that own Dodge Challenger Auto's also know this. Driving day to day city driving makes the trans adapt and after a month or so they have learned to pull the TCM fuse and then drive like a race car driver and it "wakes up" the performance.

3. I use cruise control as much as possible, even at 25-35mph zones. I notice that sometimes I leave my foot on the gas slightly and catch myself pushing on it slightly when in cruise. Even though I don't feel I'm pushing the pedal and not increasing speed.....when I move my foot...the MPG goes up slightly.

4. When not using cruise it is a natural habit for most to continue to increase speed slightly and pressing the gas more than needed to maintain speed. At some point you come up on slower traffic and realize you are going faster than you thought you were. Another cause for decreased MPG.

5. Install a 1971 mopar superbird nose cone on the front.
Just returned from a trip to California including going over many mountain passes from Arizona with the AC on 75% of time. Averaged 22.5 MPH. Speed was speed limit to 5 over, had it on cruise mostly at 75 mies per hour!
