We had resumed interstate driving after a 15 minute stop and were about five minutes into the next leg. Cruise control was set at 83 MPH. Fairly low altitude (~4k feet). Relatively flat interstate.

Lost all power from the engine. Had the pedal floored while the speed continued to drop to 60 or so.

it finally recovered at about the time that I dropped the transmission into manual mode. I doubt if that's related, but could be.

No warning lights on the dash at all. Brought up the gauge panel immediately afterwards and everything looked fine.

Fortunately that stretch of interstate was almost empty.

Thoughts? I'll obviously be scheduling a visit to a dealership.

Sounds like you experienced an engine derate. Stopping after a interstate drive for a few minutes the under hood temps of the jeep got pretty hot. When you went back on the interstate, the underhood temps were probably high from heat soak. once you got back up to interstate speeds the engine bay hadn’t cooled off enough and the Jeep thought it was overheating, and tried to save itself.

Did you let your diesel idle to cool down before you stopped it?

@Ratbert oddly enough I was just thinking about messaging you to see how the diesel was performing and if you’d tried towing yet

I've seen it derate before when brake checking an asshole hugging my bumper. When that happened it clearly told me that it was derating on the dash. Nothing this time.

No, I really need to get an iDash to let me know when it's cooled off. The gauges a few seconds after it happened, however, all seemed fine.

This wasn't towing, but it was fully loaded for weeks of camping. Not at significant altitude and relatively flat (south of Pueblo).

You should definitely invest in the idash gauge so you can monitor what’s going on. I have one with my banks tuner and PedalMonster. I don’t shut my engine off until the turbo temperature cools down below 400°. It’s not cheap, but it is a great tool to monitor the engine.

Agreed.

Yes...I know that Jeep should have included enhanced gauging on the Ecodiesel, but installing a Scangauge/iDash is a near necessity - certainly more needed than, say, a tachometer.
