Currently looking at building a 2020 Sport S (need auto locks for kids) and trying to find ways to keep my price down. I don't need heated seats and questioning if I really need to add the technology package for $1000. I know it comes with V4 Turbo but I really want the V6 because its been around a lot longer and doesn't use premium gas, which evens out the loss in gas mileage in my opinion.

Anyways I think the 5" screen would be enough if I didn't get the technology package. The thing I would miss most is that I couldn't plug my phone in to listen to podcasts.

Any suggestions on this?

My best advice is to go test drive them and decide in person.

Originally I thought that anything other than the 8.4 inch was going to be too small. In the end I was happy with the 7 inch but anything less was too small for me. Another factor to consider on the screen size is the backup camera. The small differences go a long way every time you are backing up.

You can plug in your phone in the 5 inch radio. It is kind of bland in shades of gray but it will play media.

Cost you a lot more than $1000 when you regret your decision about 2 months down the road and decide to upgrade it yourself. Always option out to the max from factory. These options literally cost pennies compared to the headache you’ll run into later.
Trust me.

I didn't know that was possible thanks for sharing. What does the phone button in your picture do?

I love Google Maps and Waze, so it’s a no brainer for me...

I believe it is. I love the alpine sound system and the larger screen is really nice. I would not be happy with the lower end package. I drove a loaner with the 7” for almost a week and was ready to have my nicer sound system and screen.

If the your phone is paired via Bluetooth you can make and receive calls with the buttons on the steering wheel or buttons in the radio screen. It will also read text messages to you.

Not going to lie to you, the 8.4 Alpine system in my wife’s Jeep is very nice but I can live with what I’ve got.

The 5” is garbage. The 7” is better but it’s buggy too. The 8.4” is the only truly good uConnect.
However, if you get the 5”, you can always upgrade to the Insane Audio or Alpine head units (which ain’t cheap)
