I don’t have the 8.4 system but I personally would think that plugging in and unplugging the Tazer everytime I parked would be a hassle
I agree, but the thought of some Punkass thief getting away with my JL is worse. Just a security thing.
I plugged it in on the way home and tried the app once there....it didn't register, so I'll use it when needed. If others don't have that problem, good for them.

@Joe Paul

You do know that the Uconnect app, the JL radio and ..... all are known to be a tad buggy... to hiccup often.

Consider the issue you are havng, may be with Uconnect and no more.

Of course, Uconnect reps (they are friggin clueless, I might add) are going to say it is something attached ... not their apps fault, etc..

Regardless, I could care about the corny Uconnect app and their locator and such. I for one could care i it worked or did not work. Were I have to chose between the Uconnect app working and the programmer, I'd say be bye Uconnect app.

Again, hopefully other's will post and say if they feel, their programmer is blocking.... maybe in the end this thread will prove to be a useful tool lets say... a tool to get us more info in regard to this issue.

.
You are correct with the UConnect app, but they have improved it recently. I have received all updates and the only issue is with the app. Having the Tazer plugged in is limited to a few features, so unplugging it is not that big a deal. I have seen many vehicle thefts where Onstar has helped in quick recovery, and one recent Wrangler theft where the Uconnect failed to locate it because of the OBD being blocked. I contacted Uconnect and a rep told me they were having issues with the OBD port being used, mostly by insurance plugins.
Each to their own preference. Just information that may help others.

When you Unmarry the tazer for service, what kind of data are you reverting the computer back to? I know with tunes, dealers can flag you for something like only having 10 ignition cycles recorded but you have like 20k miles on the ODO which is a dead giveaway.

I suppose anything is possible, but my son is a service writer at a large Jeep dealership and he says they could care less about people using reprogrammers. Now maybe if you bring it in for a warranty repair that could have been caused by using a reprogrammer it would be a different story. Just making something up, but say you activate your sway bar disconnect and somehow something gets damaged. Maybe it depends on the dealer.

It’s BCM config data, basically the Jeep’s personality.
Not the same as messing with or rewriting the tune, which they care about much more (changing the tune/calibration sets a flag for aftermarket pcm detected, changing BCM config data does not). The tazer changes the data, and when you unmarry it, changes it back to your original values. Marrying it takes a snapshot of the stock values and saves them in the tazer itself.

Hey Joe, I have the mini ordered, do I have to unplug it when I take it in for service? And if so , when I plug it back in do I have to reset everything the way I had it, or does it retain your settings?
Thanks

I don't see it listed but does the Tazer allow cruise control below 20MPH? I'd love to use cruise at 10+ MPH.

Obviously, l'm not , Joe.. but.

Yes, you will want to both, unmarry and remove the Tazer Mini JL before you take the JL in for service.

When you remarry the Tazer Mini JL, the settings / features you had setup before the unmarry will go back automatically.

After your remarry, do check your settings / features you had just to be sure they are as before.

We have had guy's mention that on occasion, a setting / feature did not go back automatically. No big deal... takes little time to redo.

Hint:
For those that might be interested.. this l don't do, but is doable:

"If you really wanted to, you can use ZPU – click “configure” then “utilities” and then do a BCM READ (while plugged into the Jeep, ignition RUN)

Then unmarry, and when you’re ready – marry, and do a BCM write, writing back the file you saved. Done."

Is this new as Joe told me it didn't save any settings?

I like it if true as we needed this.

Don't see anything in the instructions on saving settings even in "Utilities".

Let me know.

If you notice that hint above is in quotes. That excerpt was taken our of an email sent to me by Joe on 4/23/18. In that email he also confirmed to me a new Tazer JL user, asking a lot of questions, that settings would indeed be saved as I said above.

At that time, I did look over ZAutomotive's, ZPU really close, and could see that what Joe said you could do with ZPU in regard to saving was undoubtedly, a go lets say.

Since early April 2018, I have had a Tazer JL and now I have a Tazer JLMini.

I have unmarried and remarried, removed Tazer related hardware and reinstalled same, probably a dozen times and selected my settings/ features are always returned with the remarry. I think once a setting did not return for me, as it should have.

I might mention that I have had communication with a couple of forum guys that said their tire size did not return with a remarry. This is why in the post above, I mentioned to check settings / features after a remarry. As for me I do not do tire sizes with the Tazer as I presently have stock tires.

In closing, I only post what I believe to be true/factual.

So there is the possibility an original setting may not return during marry/unmarry/remarry? Sounds like something people considering the Tazer should keep in mind. But in the universe of auto upgrades and mods it doesn’t appear significant.
