Thinking of this for the front bumper, with a crash bar

Every time I see those stubby rear bumpers with exposed tub corners I cringe. I just imagine coming down off a shelf and crushing one of those corners.

I would highly recommend steel bumpers and ditch the idea of aluminum.
Why? I run Next Ventures aluminum rear bumper and love it. It's stout and it won't corrode like every steel bumper on the market will even with proper coating. To be clear, not arguing, I'm just really pleased with the aluminum and wondering what the cons may be.

I believe weight saving is smart given the impact on everything else. However, as mentionned I’d either clear coat it to keep it silver if that’s what you want, but personally I’d have it sprayed with linex and forget about it.

Why not find bumpers that are already powder coated? There are so many on the market. Steel or aluminum which ever you prefer. Save a few bucks for another mod especially since you already have bumpers. Consider modifying your current bumpers, like cut off that bull bar to shave off a pound or two. I wouldn't worry about the weight; I doubt you would notice it.

I believe you said " talk me out of this " I did my best;)

Our wranglers are already heavy enough. Adding more weight just adds more wear and tear on the power train, and suspension. Your braking will not be as good, one will also lose some power, and one’s fuel economy will suffer. I don’t do it for these reasons. But everybody to their own.

As usual, I spend all weekend tracking down parts and data only to talk myself out of it on Monday.

Maybe. Still looking at aluminum. Now it’s a question of whether or not the 90 pounds saved is worth it. Maybe in 6-7 years.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I appreciate it.

True. And not really averse to it. That would save about 130 pounds during daily driving. But how do I even it out in the front?
I run a heavy front bumper and nothing in the back (no jump seat nor spare) when not wheeling. Don’t notice an excessive rake.

Check out the Rockhard Patriot aluminum ones. I swapped my plastic ones for them, added a Snittybilt winch up front an still only gained about40 lbs over stock. As noted, I’d think the raw aluminum would be a pita, but hey, it’s your ride.

I've nailed my rear bumper at the very corner twice now dropping off ledges off camber. No way you could convince me to run a bumper that does give some protection. If the jeeps was setup like a buggy with the tires cle or pushing past three real of the jeep that one thing but stock wheelbase that's a far cry from that.

Just my .02

This is why I went with Rusty’s rear fascia

My poison spyder steel bumpers survived three front end hits, not my fault, zero damage, except nicks in paint. Aluminum?? I would use aluminum skids, but not bumpers.

They look nice, but I’m not convinced that would hold up to dropping down on it from a shelf.
