Will be heading to Australia with my wife in 2022 and plan on taking my Wrangler Rubicon 4xe with us. Last I heard there were no specific plans for Jeep to release it there but found some articles on the Grand Cherokee 4xe in early β€˜22. Are you all hearing anything differently?

Hello Jeff,
Only bring it if you are staying in capital cities. We are not set up down here for electric vehicles.

If you intend to do any touring around the country don't bother it would not work. Only the cities have charge stations and even then far and few between.

I presume you are aware that we drive on the left, like the U.K. and Japan.

If you come to Sydney, you must hook up with the Sydney Jeep club

Yep! Absolutely aware and lots of experience with it from my previous posts. Will be transiting through Sydney and visiting on occasion, but based in the NT. Looking forward to getting back (got to visit a bunch when my wife was stationed there before.)

Thanks for reaching out!

Good to know. Great thing about the 4xe is that it’s a plug in hybrid as opposed to full electric. Never actually needs plugged in unless you want the EV mileage. I have a level 2 home charger that I’ll bring with me which will get me to work and back on one charge with a 2 hour charge time. Rest of the time I’ll be in normal hybrid or ICE mode relying on the 2.0T. Or use the e-save mode so I can save my battery for later and explore the outback in silence….

Looking forward to the adventure!

Hi Jeff,
I just joined the group as I am planning to buy a Grand Cherokee 4xe when they are released here.
I saw your post and just wanted to let you know that you can’t register a left hand drive car in Australia unless it is a vintage classic.
even then you are only allowed to drive to and from events staged by a registered club.
you would have to get a specialist company to swap the steering wheel to the other side - probably costing more than the car and voiding the warranty.

Our EV charging system is different to the US one. You'll have to get an adapter for AC to plug into your jeep we use a different one for EVs, and not sure if even they will work because we run on 240.

DC fast charging has a different adapter too. And not sure if there are adapter to convert DC.

Plus as you'd be aware we are RHD. And you'll get no help or warranty from pretty much anybody here.

Also saw you mentioned you'll being your own charger so make sure it runs on single phase 240.

Lastly it's good to charge here, I also have a model 3 and always charge at the shops and various places as it's free most of the time. Only place I've ever paid was at home and DC fast chargers.

There are some provisions under the Status of Forces Agreement that will allow us to register it since we’re traveling on official orders. At least that’s what my Transportation Management Officer that’s coordinating my shipment has told me anyway! There’s a lot of boxes that need checked and steps to be followed. But hey… shipping the dog is even worse!

LHD is fine in the NT and there are plenty of charging stations.
power is either 240 or 415. Most houses have both.
