I hate working on old electrical connections that are covered with adhesive residue after the electrical tape is removed, so I try to avoid tape and use shrink wrap as much as I can. After some thought and experimentation, I came up with the following technique to shrink wrap a t-splice.
Both pieces of shrink wrap are the same diameter and are over sized for the gauge of wire used. One piece is slit and tapered, wrapped over the splice and tucked into the second piece on the base of the T. Be careful when you apply the heat to not shrink the wrapped piece too much. This technique will not result in a waterproof splice.
