I used to have a 2003 350Z Touring, it was a fantastic car. I enjoyed driving it more than my ZL1. It is just a great driver’s car with the 6-speed manual.

Keep it and buy an older Jeep.

Let it go, traded my 3500 ram diesel truck straight across for my new rubi. Its all about the fun factor and being off road.

I Googled it and learnt that a "Z" is a Nissan something.

I was a long time fast car guy - my last two vehicles were a 6MT 2009 BMW 135i and a 2016 Audi S5. One drive in a friend's new JL out on the trail got me hooked and I traded in my S5 (my only vehicle) and purchased this JLR I've got now. I've never had more fun on four wheels than in my JL, and the 3.6/8AT is a sporty, quick-reacting and more-fun-than-you-think powertrain. The 6MT option being available too is great.

Especially seeing you live in CA - the trails and backcountry out this way are absolutely breathtaking and a 2 door JL is one of the best vehicles money can buy to conquer and explore it. It's a purpose built two door off road sports car (in a sense) that happens to be a lot of fun to drive on the road, too.

Hey there guys,

My name is Alex and I am new user here, but I have perused the site for a long time. I was curious if there are any JL guys here that traded in a beloved car (in my case a 2013 370z with low miles, I'm a Z guy through and through.) for their JL.

I'm supposed to go into the dealer today and put down the deposit for my 2 Door sting grey JL Sport S. But I'd be lying if I wasn't torn up about trading in my car.

I used to have other vehicles but couldn't really afford to keep them around anymore. I have three dogs and love to camp and have always wanted to get into overlanding and the such. So really need something more practical.

For what it's worth I have an 88 Z31 still that is my project. But I have grown to love my 370z (Z34).

Has anyone gone through a similar situation?? Do you regret it? Or do you love your JL? (I assume most love it!) I don't want a truck or anything super boring. When you see a Z, you know it is a Z. Just like when you see a Wrangler, you know it's a Wrangler. I also love cars with real history.

What are your guys' experiences? I'd love to know.

Thanks.

If you’re asking opinions that tells me you can afford to keep the Z.
I sold my 911 that I owned for 11 years when I purchased a SRT Grand Cherokee. Didn’t need to sell it. Never really missed the 911, but no longer have the SRT.
Now I own a jl rubicon and wish I had kept the 911.

If you love your Z that much, trust me, you’ll always regret selling it. Keep it, pay it off, then make the payment to yourself until you have a good down payment for your new JL. I have a 2019 JLUR that I bought new at the end of ‘19 for a great deal. Great truck. It scratches its own itch, but not the itch that only a flingable 2 door coupe can, so I have a 2017 BRZ and a 2002 S2000. Best of all worlds to me. Hang on to that Z and plan for your JL. Your future self will thank you!

Payoff the Z and then get the JL. But that's coming from a guy that has a 2015 Mustang GT that I purchased new in the garage with 14k miles. Only drive it in the summer. I just got rid of my GTI which I purchased new in '06 and it was mint. Such a fun car to drive. Now I'm on the lookout for clean 370Z myself.

Keep the Z and get the JL. My toy car is a 2004 BMW E46 with the ZHP package and 6spd manual that i love and when it came time to get a JL i knew it was going to be in addition to the E46, not instead of. You just "know".

But I just walked out my house and looked at the Z in the light and I just couldn't get in it to go to the dealer and put down the $1000 deposit for the order. I respect that Z so much there is not one single mod I have done to it (other than a delrin shift bar), and it is still so F***ing fun to drive.

I may just wait till it's paid off (1.5 years) and start looking at my options then, and hopefully have my sweet Z and a killer JL. (Time to get a night job!)
Best call you could have made here, especially being that close time-wise! :like: I enjoy having a sports car toy and a Jeep toy and thankful I'm able to keep one of each...best of both worlds. I really enjoy the Jeep and have always had a soft spot for Wranglers, but if I had to choose, the sports car toys have always been my first love. Can't imagine not having one in the garage. Really enjoy the Z cars and I've had a few over the years in between Vettes. Last was a Gun Metallic 2013 370Z Roadster

This was the garage for a while...with the 2013 Z & 2013 JK Freedom Edition

I think this is the way I am going to go. I want the best of both worlds. So I'll just have to wait and start saving as much as I can. Then when the Z is paid off in 18 months I'll have a good down payment for a JL. Even if it takes a couple years, so be it. My lady just got a 2017 Forester so I'm sure that'll work for anything I gotta haul around in the meantime.

I used to have more utility vehicles up untill a year ago (92 325i (dog car) with 350K miles, and an 01 F250 2WD) but ultimately they were sitting around getting dirty and rusting outside so I got rid of them.

I've considered older Jeeps but I think the JL is a really mean looking Wrangler with nice lines. So I'm gonna hold out me thinks.

It’s just a Nissan. Get over it already.
Yeahhh sometimes I tell myself the same thing. Then I look at my Zs and go "D*** that's sexy!"

OOOOF. The s30 will likely be my last Z purchase after I finish the Z31 restore and build. If you handed me the keys to an s30 with modernized suspension/powertrain or any other stupid cool sports car, I'd take the Z everytime, though a vette of any year would be tempting.

I was a long time fast car guy - my last two vehicles were a 6MT 2009 BMW 135i and a 2016 Audi S5. I love this so much. Just looks like such a great time. Your avatar as well, I just wanna blow down that trail in a wrangler. hahah

I also love all the Zs (and other sporty fun cars) I have seen in the thread. Gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside. HA!

Thanks for all the posts, you guys are great! I appreciate all the input.

Well, here is my 2 cents. Keep the Z, & then get a JL when you can. Then, if you use the JL more, you can always sell the Z.

I had a '72 Datsun 240Z & wish I still had it. But, I probably still would have sold it, I just like fishing, hunting, & being offroad more than the sports car. I also sold my fully restored & built up '91 MR2 Turbo. Miss it badly, but I don't miss having to work on it. I'm not a small man, had to get my daughters & grandson to help me reach certain bolts & hoses, because my arms/hands wouldn't fit. But, boy was it a blast to drive. But, alas I do more fishing, hunting & offroad stuff than I ever did AX or Time Trials.

To be honest, I'm not really missing that I don't have a speedy car around. Really like my Sting Gray JLUR. :like:
