Hi @jonkit,

We're terribly sorry that you've experienced this! Please send our team a private message with your VIN and dealer so that we can provide additional support while in service at the dealer.

Thanks Darlene. I sent you a private message. Hopefully you can do something. Once again they think it is a battery issue, while I live in fear of stopping at intersections.

When the powers that be decide to shut down life as we know it, ""Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" will run across the screens of all Wranglers in motion at the time the plug is pulled...

It appears that the 3.6L with ESS is more problematic than the 2.0L

ESS is the worst.... itā€™s the only thing on my Jeep that doesnā€™t work and hasnā€™t worked since soon after delivery (almost a year ago) AND the dealership canā€™t figure it out AND Jeep Cares didn't do a whole lot to help out.

At this point, I just turn that crap off and eventually Iā€™ll take it back to the dealer to fix. Hoping they eventually figure this shit out but I sure as hell donā€™t want to the guinea pig they experiment on to figure it out.

With these electronic issues, my condolences to people on this thread having issues and good luck to them...

Seems that 12V is really inadequate to run this system smoothly. My GF's BMW 3-series is also having constant issues with the ESS system - back to shop for the 3rd time in a row. (Again 12V)

Well for me - and not to get off topic from the thread but I think itā€™s all 12v related - it will work about 5 or 6 times (the ESS) then will throw the Service Stop/Start error and stop working. As soon as I shut the Jeep off and start it back up, though, it works again for 5 or 6 times...

At first they charged my AUX battery, then they replaced it, and then some crap happened thatā€™s so stupid Iā€™m not even going to type it out right now. Again, hoping that by waiting some time, they figure out the issue with someone elseā€™s Jeep.

I get that these are complex machines and theyā€™re new (or it was very new last year) but seems like FCA doesnā€™t give dealer techs good support either. On one hand, I can sympathize with them but itā€™s just frustrating as hell.

Has anyone been able to get a loaner car from their dealer or rental reimbursement while their JL sits on the lot? I canā€™t be without a vehicle until further notice!

I was hopping this was a solved and closed issue. Itā€™s unbelievable that after one year this problem still happening and nobody seems to know how to really fix it.
I havenā€™t had this problem, but it worries me that this could happen and there is no good solution.
I guess we have to wait until JLs start to come out of warranty and the better mechanic shops get their hands on them. Then things will get worked out.

UPDATE: Good News :please: (I think!)

I'm attaching some photos for reference. I don't have a photo of our fuse box with connectors, but it's exactly as shown by @Rusty Teeth and @949 JLU in this thread: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/ā€œservice-stop-start-systemā€.16645/page-4

The story:
While driving home from work, came to a stop light and the ESS engaged as normal. Light goes green, took foot off brake pedal and gave it some gas... dashboard began to beep and showed the attached alert! and to safely pull the vehicle over immediately. Managed to limp to the house (fortunately not a long distance from where the alert occurred.) Restarting the vehicle did nothing. Called our local dealer to report what's happening, they advise a tow and I arrange it with FCA - covered under warranty.

Dealer receives the Jeep and it sits..... and sits.... no one is looking at it. We were told, "it's a tow-in, so we don't know when we'll get to it." And also, "there are 5 tow-ins in front of you." On the second day of no progress, no calls from customer service, we start demanding a loaner vehicle. Dealer response, "we don't offer loaner cars." I can't NOT have a car for work. JeepCares has been notified and supposedly escalated the situation, but other than giving us a case number, there is no forward progress. JeepCares also said, "a case specialist will contact you within 1-2 biz days." Simply put, I didn't HAVE 1-2 biz days for this diagnosis to happen and then more days to likely replace a part, I'm sure the dealer wouldn't have on hand.

Well, this morning I woke to a text from the service dept saying I could come in as it was ready for pick up. Here's what they are saying was the cause: Codes P2503, P2504, P2AFS. Fuses and relays were ok and connections were good. (Sidenote - after seeing threads like these after we bought the vehicle, my husband immediately went to the fuse box and made sure all had been seated properly. This was before any errors.) The power distribution center however, showed eyelets #3 and #5 improperly installed and loose. Just like the images RustyTeeth and 949LJU show in the other thread.

We have only driven it a couple miles ourselves, but it appears to be working normal. The service tech said this is not a common issue, but certainly one that needed to be addressed. He said the ESS is a terrible idea and we should be lucky that our Jeep even has a button to turn it off - another guy chimed in to say some Chevy's don't.

My main problem, aside from the fact that I had a $40,000 paper weight because hey technology!, was with the service dept itself. There's no telling where the real lack of customer service lies. In the end, it took 3 days for a 20 min fix?! On the one hand, I'm glad I didn't have this Jeep for the long diagnosis disaster that @Shaved Ice went through, but on the other hand... I question whether it's my local dealer (which wasn't where we bought it) kicking us to the curb until we got JeepCares involved. I'm just glad that it's seemingly resolved. I hope maybe this will help some of you having the same or very similar issues.

Also, I hate that I love/hate this vehicle so much right now. Jeep has everyone by the balls for sure!

I may have spoken too soon. Took a drive this evening to test it out. Everything seemed fine. I came home and turned the Jeep off. Then a short while later I got back in it and started it up, immediately got a beep and message saying, ā€start/stop unavailable service start/stopā€ with both the battery and @! symbols illuminated in the instrument cluster. I drove it to my destination (ESS was not working) and when I arrived, turned the Jeep off, then on again. No message this time. Drove home and ESS worked. No idea if itā€™s fixed or not.
