Just looking at some wheels and most seem to be 17x8.5 and I think the stock Rubicon wheels are 17x7.5. Does it make any difference? I have never been a fan of the standard Rubicon wheels myself was thinking of replacing them.

its only 1" wider which wont make much of difference. it might give a wider look on the jeep. on my last ride (07 grand cherokee) the stock wheel was 17x7.5 and stock size tires. i swapped to a 17x9 with stock size nitto grappler a/t and it gave it a wider / aggressive look.

i would look into 1.5" or wider to make it worth it. 17x9 would be a common size to balance a wider look without complicating anything else.

I have 17x9 pro comp wheels. Like them a lot, and good to go if I ever want to go bigger than 33” tires. 👍
thats what i'm looking to do once the org tires wares out.

I have a set of stock Rubicon 285/70R17 KO2's mounted to 17x8.5" Method wheels sitting in my garage as we speak. Mounted up easy peasy, look great.

Just speculating here, but I’m guessing pretty much any tires that you would ever want to put on your wrangler would fit 17x9 wheels. Just depends on what offset and wheel weight you are looking for…🤔
I think the reason mopar wheels come 7.5 wide is to keep them from poking out from fender and to minimize weight.

It's 100% because of fender relationship. Some states (and countries) have extremely strict policies on tires sticking out past the fenders. Manufacturers have to make a product that satisfies the most stringent criteria they hope to sell in.

Thanks all, just wanted to make sure since most things are order and wait these days. Didn't think 1 inch would matter much but best to be sure!

I actually had about an inch and a half of tire poke before installing fender flares. Now I’m good. And I reside in a “no tire poke” inspection state. But even more important, the flares cut waaaay down on the rooster tails and road debris 👍
