Yes, it the sport is a totally capable off-road vehicle. You will save a tone of money up front by going this route and get to spend some time learning what kind of off-road driving you are into. And you can keep an eye out for Rubicon tack off parts for sale and spice it up a bit.

^ agreed. There are quite a few rubi take offs in circulation, keep an eye out for those. Often you can get some great deals.

while I'll eventually buy a Rubicon, we rented a sport with the Mopar lift and 33 tires in Moab for a week and did more than I thought I could ever do, including the 3D trail and the south part of Fins and Things with no problem, and that's way beyond what you describe. So with the limited experience I have (my car is a 16 year old Tacoma off road 2WD) you should be more than fine. And I've never had this much fun in a vehicle, including many times on no speed limit German Autobahns, since that's where I'm from. Rent one for a couple days if you can, if not just buy it, it'll be fun :)

Thanks for the advise to everyone. That is a nice red JL Sport in the photo above. Not really interested in modding it. I could see maybe getting some 33s like on the red Sport shown above, but that would be about it.

I enjoyed the video of the blue JK Sport in Australia. Nice!

Dealer gave me a price of $31k ($34k out the door with all taxes and fees) for a 2 door Sport manual. Soft top. Only options are anti-spin Dana 44, and the tinted soft top windows. Oh it has A/C too.

Not sure if this is a good deal. Oh, and I am keeping the Tacoma TRD Off Road.

With 33s on a JL Sport, wouldn't you need to regear to 4.10s? How is it with the 3.45s?

That white one is exactly what I am considering. I am ok with or without the A/C. I would definitely prefer a manual. AntiSpin rear axle would be good too.
Buy it.

Drive it.

Love it.

And use it as a chick magnet.

But, you will need AC in GA for that last bit.

You'll go everywhere in the Sport except maybe some spots that would bare minimum require a rear/front locker. But easy enough to add that later and only if the type of wheeling you do needs it. I did use my lockers a lot, but that was on the harder stuff in Moab (bone stock Rubi). The 4 door is helpful in Moab because of the wheel base, and a 2 door would not get through just because of that alone in some spots. I.e., last obstacle on Golden Spike -- 2 doors always had to winch up, even if they were on large tires and lifted. My stock 4 door went right up with lockers engaged and tires aired to 12 psi.

Does $31k sound right ($34k with tax and all fees out the door)? Base model, manual, soft top with window tint and anti-spin axle.

The online Jeep configurator says a stock Sport S with the things you mentioned is a little over $33k:

I am looking at base Sport 2 door manual with anti spin. Just wondered what people are getting the base models for. I dont plan to pay MSRP.

I posted the MSRP so you'd have a baseline to go off of.

I think it's pretty well known that new Jeeps don't get much of a discount.
