2021 2 Door Rubicon on order
Hey, my 2021 2 door rubicon with 7500 miles. I took it in for an oil change at 6000 miles and tire rotate and they told me it didn't need a rotation(haven't had one yet), so I found another dealer further away and had my tie rod castle nuts tightened because of the click sound, and had them rotate at the same time. Never noticed it before, but now I have vibrations and see that the now rear tires (were front) are/were cupping. Everything I can find is due to bad shocks, suspension items. The jeep only has 7500 miles on it so I can't believe its that. I had been running tire pressure at 36-37 but now have changed it to 33-34 (depending on dash cluster/gauge pressure). Any ideas of what could be causing this (tire pressure?) or is normal? Don't think it is, but can I resolve this?

Not rotating is my first guess. All highway driving may add to this problem since out of balance tires can wear in odd patterns. Alignment can be off. Definitely not the tire pressure. Pictures of the cupping/wear will help. Cannot really evaluate this without a visual of the issue.

it doesnā€™t show up well from these. Will try again tomorrow when itā€™s daylight. You can feel it more than see it but I wouldnā€™t think if you rotate every other oil change and oil changes are 5-8000 (I do mine around every 3000 so Iā€™m only 1000 miles off ). I could only image if I waited another 3000 plus to rotate.
Also before after chalk test so it seems itā€™s wearing fine (this is the front tire, old back tire). Will prob chalk test the rear also (old front). Maybe they will wear normal after a bit?

I am not addressing the cupping .... but you should be running 32# front and rear on your 2 dr. Rubi JL that is residing / running in Florida in the warmer months. In cooler months set psi to 33# if you want..

Sure, I'm all for chalk testing but I know what a 2 dr. Rubi, JL with stock wheels/tires needs to run in Florida.

DO check & adjust the psi on each tire in the AM, before you use the JL and before the Sun starts beating down on the tires.. Use a decent tire gauge and do NOT reply on the JL's psi reading it displays.

Remember the tires you inflate 32# ....once the temps increase, the tires heat up with driving, etc. .... will end up much much higher then 32# psi .

Forgot to mention..... that you will find your 2 dr Rubi, JL will steer better, wander less, etc. if you run at 32# psi in Florida.

Also, your steering wheel is adjustable. Adjust so you are not reaching for the steering wheel.

You want a good bend in your arms. IF you drive with arms fully extended, your arms soon get relaxed/weary and you will be moving the steering wheel as a result..

KO2ā€™s wear pretty bad when not rotated often. Rotate left to right, get them turning in the other direction.

@mwilk012 i think the dealer only did fronts to back and did not swap sides. Guess I need to find a buddy with a floor jack and stands and do them myself. I thought a dealership would have done that. But if I hadnā€™t taken photos before I would have assumed they did. I only know this because each of my tires has a red dot in a different place on each tire. And where the red dot was before is on the rear now and vice versa.

see red dot. One at ko2 and one at t/a

Honestly, the kid doing tire rotations doesnā€™t know why he is doing it. They take a wheel off, go to the closest other wheel and call it done.

Wow, Iā€™m amazed at the difference for just a few psi. The ride is more squishy/ softer now. I know it was hard upon delivery at 42, so I moved them down to 36. Seeing door sill says 37, I thought 32 would have been too low.
thanks!
