I'm looking for a high quality stepped drill bit any suggestions? I have some crappy ones that don't cut anything... Looking to install the metalcloak lift kit and i see they use one.

How many times have you used the old ones for them to not cut? are you sure it’s the bit and not the drill or even maybe the setting on the drill?

I don’t use stepped drill bits much but I do like them. I thought about picking up a nice one but some of them can get up there in price $70 and higher. I looked at Irwin and a Milwaukee ones but then I just needed it for one hole so I went to harbor freight and picked up one for $15. If you don’t use them much I’d just pick up a cheaper one from Harbor freight and call it a day. I thought it might come back and bite me but it blasted though the metal like nothing and I was glad I didn’t spend the extra money. If I was going to use it more often then I would have gotten one of the other brand ones.

If you are referring to where the step bit is used on the metalcloak lift being the outboard shock mounts, I can confirm that you need a step bit. The space is so tight that you can’t get in there with a regular bit. I still couldn’t get a straight shot at it.

fwiw I have a harbor freight one that has been used several times to make metal holes on my jeep bigger and it’s still cutting well

I took the brake caliper off (2bolts) and it gave me a straight shot for drilling. I did use a step bit
