Was the dealer able to duplicate the death wobble?

Usually dealers say “can not duplicate” and send you home.

That’s great that the dealer is taking care of you.

Care to disclose the dealer? They may get some additional business from forum members.
Yes they did a test drive and came back with a look of horror on his face so I’m sure he experienced it. The dealership is Sonju near Two Harbors Mn. I’m very happy the way they take care of me there.

If there are no visible causes for this, it could be a bad tire. Try rotating tires front to back to see if the problem changes. I just had this same issue on a 2000 TJ with stock suspension and stock tires after some front end work. It started getting death wobble at highway speeds. I swapped the front tires left to right and the problem went away, sure sign of a bad tire.

So, I have a 2018 Jeep JLU Sahara with 11XXX KM's on it, everything has been perfect, no recalls etc but for some reason when I hit a bump my steering wheel like shakes? It kinda feels like my tires went flat and have no air in it.

I'm new to anything really vehicle related so I was wondering if anyone may know the cause?

Edit: This only happens at highway speeds, and is bone stock.
I have 4500 miles on my jl and a 2" lift the lift has been on since 800 miles so thats not the issue and I would like to know what it is also. Thanks

I'm having the same problem with the wobble going over bumps at 55mph+. I had a nail in my tire, so when I went in for an oil change, they rotated the tires and put the "fixed" tire up front and the wobbles started. It has been going on for a week and I'm going to try and get into the dealer today.

I have no modifications and 28k (yeah, 28,000) miles on the Jeep and like I said, it just started. I'm hoping it's the tires, that way I can get bigger ones. :)

@JeepCares has been really awesome to work with and same with my local dealer, so I'm sure they'll get it taken care of.

I agree with JEBIRUPH ; I had a similar experience with my TJ. No one could figure out why my Jeep began the Death Wobble Dance between 53 to 58 mph. For a year I simply avoided that speed range. I would either accelerate through it or decelerate under it.
I got new larger tires.......and MAGIC...no more wobble.
There are so many little subtle things that could induce the wobble. Easiest one to check is tires.
Good luck & let us know how it works out.

Hi JtwJL,
We understand that you are just reaching out to other forum members at this time for advice. However, if you do choose to visit a dealer to have this looked into further we would be more than happy to offer our assistance. We would recommend setting up a ride along with your dealer so that you can demonstrate exactly what is happening for them. If this is something that interests you, please let us know.

@JeepCares I have an appointment at my local dealer for a severe wobble when hitting uneven pavement at highway speed. I will ask to have a test drive along with a dealer representative. Any help you could provide before or after the appointment would be greatly appreciated. I still love my JLU!

edit.. see thread post #27

I just got a call from my dealer. They were able to duplicate the steering/vehicle wobble that I’ve been experiencing. They called FCA to report the issue and were advised to install a “steering dampener”, which is now on a 1-2 week back order.

So the parts were sent next day air and have been installed. All new track bars up front and tie rod ends. They took it out and said it’s much better but still has death wobble. We are in a holding pattern for now the dealer is asking Mopar what to try next. I think I might see if they want to take out the lift and see if it helps then they would know the lift is the problem. Jeep is doing everything that they can to find and fix the problem very happy that they keep me up to date. I sure hope we can get it figured out soon.

Why is it that steering was not a problem on previous models ? Why is the steering problem only on this model ?

Not sure I think it might be that the lift changes the angles of a few things and that causes the problem. I’ll have them take it out this week and see if it gets better. If they are willing to try that option. I’m sure they will.

A lift may exacerbate the problem, but the lift isn't always the root cause. Neither of mine that have started wobbling have had a lift or any mods. This also happened on my JK, but that was after a few years of components becoming worn. It definitely shouldn't be happening after only a few months.
