So I did a search and found a bunch of people reporting steering is loose but not tight. I received my jl in April and haven't really had any problems. I've noticed for the last week that my steering becomes very hard to turn my steering wheel left when I'm at highway speeds. Best way to describe it is like when power steering goes out. It only happens at highway speeds and when I slow down it is back to normal. I have an active recall and will ask the dealership when I take it in. I'm assuming they are going to tell me they can't reproduce the problem and that nothing is wrong. This has happens intermittently and not every time. I was just curious if someone has experienced this to or any suggestions for it.

Thank you

If you have a recall on the steering, it fixes it. If not, discuss after that and see if there is more to address.

I've also just started experiencing the tight steering last week 11-15-18. i was on my way home from work doing about 60mph and all of a sudden my steering got tight as if there was no power steering. Didn't know whether to pull over on the highway or not, but i kept going until i could exit because i didn't want to risk being broken down on the highway in the cold. Immediately after exiting when i slowed to about 30mph my steering suddenly came back. The next day i drove it and the tightness happened again but this time it would get tighten and then just loosen up suddenly causing the truck to swerve. Kinda scary when your on the highway with other vehicle around. I have an appointment for my dealers service dept. to check it out next week. Hopefully they can resolve this issue

I have the same issue! I cannot replicate it. Has happened several times while off-roading and also normal street driving. SCARY! Power steering goes out when turning to the right only, Start/Stop is disabled for no reason. Have to strong arm to turn the wheel. Then suddenly power steering kicks back on and drives normal. Happened while going around a curve and almost went head-on into traffic. Sat on the side of the road until I could get power steering to engage again

Took mine to dealer. They had to reset power steering box. I don't know a lot of details on what they did but they said it was programed incorrectly. I believe there is a tsb for it too.

Thereā€™s another thread about something similar. Feels like there is steering resistance in cold temperatures. Please report back if this fix has resolved your issue!

Yes the issue was fixed. I'll try to explain what they told me but I am not a mechanic so I'm sorry if it doesn't make sense. The mechanic said jeep set the steering box to assist with driving straight when you get to certain mph. He said the steering box or some steering control module was set at a 5 or a - 5 or something like that when you get to a certain speed. When under that speed it is a 0 and steering is up to you. He mentioned it doesn't know why it was set like that and he set all the numbers to zero which resolved the issue. I have noticed it has made my ride rougher at highway speeds and I get more "wobble" when I go over bumps.
