Steering locked up when going around a curve

Steering locked up when going around a curve. It was sticking to the right and I had to yank the steering wheel back to the left for it come undone. I drove straight to the dealership because there was no way I was driving on the Hwy after that. Has anyone else experienced their steering locking up like this?

I forgot to say that the dealership couldn’t find anything wrong

there have been a few reports in various threads, doesn't appear to be a wide spread issue but I'm sure it's a big deal when it happens to you.

The first time I pulled out of the dealership driveway it didn’t return to center until I turned it back lol. Freaked me out.

my guess is either you get the loose wandering steering or you get the sticky steering.

All I know is I have had my Jeep for one year now and it has been in the shop twice for the death wobble before it was finally fixed and now I’m having a go at this steering lock up issue that they can’t seem to figure out. I’m too scared to drive it on the highway

I think I remember seeing a few comments that FCA was replacing the electric power steering unit and/or flashing the PCM, but I don't remember the details. you may find some info in the thread below. please keep us posted on updates.

They just need to can the engineer that came up with this steering box, hire a new team and fix this dam thing. Here a hint, put what you had on the JK series

I have experience the same and noticed it happened only in 4HAuto. It happened while parking and when the wheel locked up, I put it into 2H to get rid the locked up. Never experience this issue when in 2H.

I had this issue on 3 occasions. On the third occasion in January, I almost crashed into a curve on a highway also. I called the dealership and they immediately made an appointment for me so I headed there. The intake tech was surprised when I explained the issue. I was told it was a power steering issue and needed to be reprogrammed. He was also surprised that there was a fix for my issue. Havent had an issue since then.

Yep!!

Mine is on YouTube and on this forum, as well.

Took MONTHS to get Jeep to agree to replace the steering gear box, pump, and intermediate shaft. Problem is gone now.

My local dealer in NC wouldn't do anything since they couldn't duplicate it. I ended up having a dealer in Sacramento do it after Jeep finally agreed to replace the parts. This was 2 weeks before running the Rubicon.

All is well now. Steering is soooo much better and I haven't experienced the lock-up issue.

On the early 18’s their electric boost would drop off in cold weather. The steering does not lock up but the power assist goes away.

Had this happen last winter. One computer flash as per TSB and all was corrected
