Nice looking Jeep!My local AD performed the TSB on my 2020 JLUR today. Was at the dealership from 1-5. The drive home was in heavy traffic so I couldnāt test it at speed, but the dead spot is either gone or almost gone. Feels much tighter. I overcorrected several times being so used to the slop in the steering.
Iāll update with how it drives tomorrow. I drive all day as a Realtor so Iāll report back.
BTW, they sure made a mess installing this box! The Jeep was dripping fluid when I got home. (It was raining a bit) but it was washing out some of the fluid that was spilt. Got under the Jeep to look at there is fluid covering both sides of the engine bay lol. I know thatās a messy job. But clean up a bit, ya know? Itās a dang near $60k Jeep lol.
Quick question, being that you are from a spot that does see a relatively cold winter .... did the problem seem much, much less on a cold day? I have only had my Jeep for a few months and the first warm day of ownership was Saturday. Thought I was going to get into an accident ... booked for Wednesday. My dealer performed TSB 08-003-21 and installed box PN 68507569-AB on my 2020 JL 2dr freedom (sport) today.
The vehicle was built with an aluminum box and had approx 1.75" of play at the steering wheel OD. Even an experienced solid front axle driver (multiple jeeps and a TJ with over 200k miles) had trouble not appearing drunk while driving it down a straight road.
After the TSB the dead spot is pretty much imperceptible, huge improvement. The only steering inputs needed are to correct for road crown and body shifting relative to axle, as expected for solid front axle.
Sorry I didn't see this until now. I do not drive regularly (WFH), and I bought the Jeep used in March. So I don't have much experience with this issue over varying ambient temperatures. However I can say, the issue was worse on longer drives, which does indicate some temperature dependency. In general, many steering and suspension components will be less stiff, more compliant, lower friction at higher temperatures. I do not know if this effect on the steering box is from fluid viscosity or the aluminum case expanding faster than it's steel internals. I would guess the latter, but that is pure speculation.Quick question, being that you are from a spot that does see a relatively cold winter .... did the problem seem much, much less on a cold day? @JeepCares I have a 2019 JLU Rubicon thats out of warranty now. Is the steering box issue something that can still be fixed "under warranty" even though im out of the warranty period?Hi, Jeep&dogs. Per the TSB, repairs are "Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty." That said, I am not a trained technician, so I am unsure if your repair was within the provisions. However, a dealer tech or case specialist would be able to assist you with that. We ask that you contact either your preferred dealer or Jeep Cares via phone at 877-426-5337 for additional assistance.

Since it is a known issue, it might be possible. I'd contact @JeepCares directly and see what they say to you.@JeepCares I have a 2019 JLU Rubicon thats out of warranty now. Is the steering box issue something that can still be fixed "under warranty" even though im out of the warranty period?
Yes you can get it replaced whenever the problem occurs. If you've got bad steering now due to a box have @JeepCares open a case and get you in touch with a rep who will work with your dealership.@JeepCares I have a 2019 JLU Rubicon thats out of warranty now. TSB's aren't recalls and when outside of warranty, the costs are charged to the customer.Yes you can get it replaced whenever the problem occurs. If you've got bad steering now due to a box have @JeepCares open a case and get you in touch with a rep who will work with your dealership.
That is not my understanding of this specific issue and also not my experience as I was out of warranty on the one Jeep we had it done on. The FCA rep they get put in touch with will take care of all that.TSB's aren't recalls and when outside of warranty, the costs are charged to the customer.
maybe on a case by case basis, but by the book this is not a warranty repair. That is not my understanding of this specific issue and also not my experience as I was out of warranty on the one Jeep we had it done on. The FCA rep they get put in touch with will take care of all that.

just as an FYI, I went to my local dealer to have them look at it as well as the 2.0 fuel line recall. At 8000 miles, finally after 15 months of ownership as I am driving more on the highway, I notice the steering play and wandering.maybe on a case by case basis, but by the book this is not a warranty repair.
Oh nice! I'll call them then. Thank you!just as an FYI, I went to my local dealer to have them look at it as well as the 2.0 fuel line recall. At 8000 miles, finally after 15 months of ownership as I am driving more on the highway, I notice the steering play and wandering.
Mine happens to my unmodified and under warranty, but the service advisor said they have been told by FCA to perform the steering box change regardless of warranty status or modification status if the vehicle has the old box. Maybe they dont tell all dealers that, but that was what he mentioned to me in passing. My gear is ordered and will be here in a few days.
Just had the TSB performed on my jeep last week. I can finally drive it on the interstate at 75mph and not work up a sweat! No steering playMy dealer performed TSB 08-003-21 and installed box PN 68507569-AB on my 2020 JL 2dr freedom (sport) today.
