Start-up Temperature

When I start up my JLUR the temp immediately (within first 30-60 seconds) jumps to 2nd or 3rd bar from bottom. It nevers goes over the half point no matter how hard it is being driven (on or offroad). It has never overheated. It just goes up immediately - it cannot be 190F after 30-60 seconds.

Anyone else experience this one?

I'll have to re-check, but my instinct is to say: no.

If you have the Pentastar it is designed for quick warm up. Don't think the bars are necessarily linear.

My 2.0 does the same thing. You can hear the engine sound totally different until it gets to normal operating temp. Almost like it’s recirculating EGR and extra fueling for added heat. It is amazing how fast it can get up to temp.

depending on the weather, my temp is just below the half way point in 5 to 10 min. at first start up of the day. thats with a 3.6

Mine does not. It works it way up between 1/4 and 1/2 over a few minutes and then never moves.

@OP what are the ambient temps like? These engines do reach normal operating temps quickly, at least in part due to the high viscosity oil.

Ambient is 60-80F. Cooling jumps up quickly to approx 190F quickly and stays between 190-215F. Not overly concerned since it never overheats but never had a vehicle that jumps temp so quickly and I do not remember it doing that last summer.
