I have a 2020 2.0L Jeep Wrangler JLU. Last week I got a message saying “Start Stop not Ready, Battery Charging”. After a couple days of the message I took it in to the dealer, it’s still under warranty. They kept it for a day and said both batteries were reading good and they made sure they were charged. Yesterday, 620/22 I got the same message. Brought it back to the dealer and they said it wasn’t showing any codes and the batteries were charged but the message was displaying and the Start/Stop was not working. They then contacted Chrysler STAR who advised them to replace the IBS Sensor and see if that works. I was told this has happened to only one other jeep JLU in the USA. Has anyone had this issue and what was the fix?
Don't feel pregnant after 12 months dealer has finally ordered the IBS unit. Check out a post by Rhienbeck01 to see the complexity of the problem.

In most cases it's one of the batteries. If the AUX battery starts to fail it will eventually draw down the main crank battery.

Mine must be the other one! My dealer has been futzing with mine for over a year. They replaced the IBS sensor last month and that did not fix it. Quickly reverts to "charging". My dealer says Jeep is sending out a new battery tester to all dealers. IDK

Dealer is still waiting for new battery tester. Took two round trips from central Illinois to 50 miles north of Green Bay Wisconsin within two weeks. Total of 1320 miles. After each leg of the trip start/stop worked for a few days then went back to not ready -

Ok! Dealer had my 2020 JLU for a month and returned it yesterday! The ESS is working for now. To review my history over the last year:

Charged Aux Battery
Replaced Aux Battery
Replaced IBS module noting that the aux battery was only 57%
System very intermittently operated "Ready"
Tested with "new and improved" battery tester.
AFTER one month
Replaced both batteries and a Fuse Array 2018-2022 Jeep - 68368854aa

I believe the fuse array was either delay tactic or a self inflicted injury.

My honest belief is the solution is the presence of two healthy batteries and IBS module that are run through the proper training protocol. IBS must be trained to two healthy batteries to get the system to properly maintain adequate charges on both batteries.

Time will tell!

Good grief. Why didn’t you just change the batteries yourself like everyone else? It’s ridiculous what the dealer will put you through.

I'm a grumpy old man with a warrantee in effect! I'm not giving them any excuse to void the warrantee!

Same thing happened to my wife's Grand Cherokee L. They swapped out several sensors and nothing worked until they replaced both batteries. Even though the batteries would charge, the draw down rate was super quick and then they would stay at 30% which is fine for everything else except the start/stop system.

The dealer provided a detailed go / no-go list for ESS system.

The go parameter for the ESS includes 11.5 volts and 65% charge for both batteries. Temperature below 140 degrees and batteries must pass a load test and not be sulfated.

Part of the problem IMO is that the techs' (I use the term loosely) don't do a through job and only replace the most obvious faulty component and don't retrain the IBS properly!

For the record...

IBS is not trainable as your post implies. Yes, reset IBS, and then the IBS re-learning begins... but you can't train/"retrain" IBS.

Train or re-learn you want to nitpick?
Not nit picking... sorry you took my info / comment that way..

Just want to educate / to be helpful and pass on correct info to those that actually want to learn..

You implied the Tech did not train.... did not use the correct "training protocol. There is no such thing as a training protocol that a tech or anyone follows/can follow.

The IBS is reset when the 12v power is killed and or the IBS is disconnected. The JL does it's own relearning and a Tech or owner of the vehicle, does not directly have a part in the relearning process.

The reset initiates a training / relearning cycle that includes several ignition starts and stops with multi hour off periods in the mix. I have read anywhere from 2 to 5 restarts with off periods ranging from 4 to 8 hours. Have a nice day!

Rich,

What a crock. They really told you this? I did not read through any of this thread but I'm certain everyone (without exception) is laughing their ass off.

Congratulations, you are the next owner of every Jeep JL Wrangler ever produced with the two dissimilar sized battery ESS system to experience this problem. There has likely never (ever) in the history of the JL ever been anyone who did not get a "Start Stop Not Ready, Battery Charging" or "Start Stop Not Ready, Battery Protection Mode" ESS complaint.

This is so wonderfully cute. Nice chuckle.

There are only two known cures:
(1) Replace both batteries.
(2) Sell the JL.
