SS3 LED Fogs - Diode Dynamics - ? Wow!

I purchased the Diode Dynamics SS3 Sport type amber fog lights (item J153317-JL on Extremeterrain, $280). I previously ran KC HiLiTES gravity LED amber fog lights on my 2010 Jeep Wrangler, which convinced me the value of amber fogs.

Firstly, it's a real head scratcher why Jeep produces two (or three?) different fog light mounting configurations now. The JK was a no-brainer (with one or two limited exceptions? The Call of Duty edition maybe?). It was difficult to find an amber fog light that mounts on the 3-hole Sport bumper.

Echoing others here, the fogs are great! Probably double the light output of the stock fog lights, and much better illumination along the sides. The "Sport" designation is the least bright of the available options.

The color is an artificial green-yellow. Not quite the amber I was expecting or used to with my KC HiLiTES. I prefer the amber color but it's not a bad hue, and it's still easy on the eyes.

With your Earl colored JL.... Have you considered going with Diode Dynamics clear or smoked front LED side markers? Easy install/about 20 min. and they cost about $100. The amber color of the stock front side markers detracts from the great look of the Earl color...

The @Diode Dynamics LED side marker's are a terrific offering. They look so much better then the factory amber side marker...

I have had mine installed since 8/2019. Over 70,000 miles with them on the JL and never any issues... Never any moisture issues, etc..

DO, only follow the install video that Diode Dynamics made. Follow that video only!
There are other videos out there that will have you pulling the fender liner, doing more then you need to do in regard to this very simple installation.

Yes there is..... and even if you say bought a set that had backlighting you do not have to wire up the amber backlighting. It's a separate connection that does not need to be made..

The install of the DD fogs is easy easy... so easy. Unplug stock fog and you plug in the DD fog with the provided short adapter cable.

Price point of the DD offerings is far better then the competition usually... and DD products are as good/are top notch and support by DD customer support is terrific..

Yes, there are buttons on the listing provided to select the following:

Power Level
Sport/Pro/Max

Bumper Type
Plastic (Sport)
Plastic (Non-Sport)
Steel Bumper

Amber Backlight
Yes or No

You would select NO for the backlight or as mentioned by @Rhinebeck01 you could purchase the backlit option if you want that function later. In the meantime, that wire lead would just be stored away for the time being.

Overall, just select NO if you don't want the backlight feature included in your plug-and-play SS3 fog light kit.

Well, I have had the Diode Dynamics, SS3's installed for just over 2 yrs. now.

Have driven approx. 44,000 mi. with them installed on my 2018 JL.

I do lots of night time back road driving and all night driving on the interstates.

Anyway, geeeez, I definitely made the right decision when I installed the Diode Dynamics SS3's.
Easy install, not that pricey and Wow what a difference they make..

Factory LED Fog Light output is laughable when compared to the SS3's.

I had to rotate them down. I have the max version so no matter what I do they are super bright towards oncoming traffic. Had to cut an Allen wrench down to fit the bo,to to tighten them down. They are actually brighter than the LED head,ights

I agree they are brighter then the stock OEM high beams on a JL. You have to use discretion when to have them on... Yes, consideration of oncoming traffic is important.

TERRIFIC are the Diode Dynamics, SS3's..

Terrific they are on dark dark interstates and dark dark back roads...

I have SS3 Pro SAEs installed on my Wrangler. Even with factory LED headlights, they make a huge difference. I programmed my Tazer so that the stay on with the high beams as well.

I like them so much that I bought a set for my F150. They are the best combination of performance and practicality in aftermarket lighting I’ve had up to this point.

Dammit, love to have match squadrons to my lp9s but Sae don't have the backlight. Meanwhile SS3 have backlight option but won't match well with amber lp9. errrr
