I live in Illinois on the border of WI. Several weeks ago my brakes started squeaking. Had 4800 miles on my JLU at the time. Took it to the dealer for oil change and tire rotation and mentioned the squeaky brakes. I received the 'That's pretty typical for this time of year given the moisture, type of brake pads, etc. etc. etc. but we will take a look.' They came back and said 'We are replacing your front rotors and pads'. New pads and rotors installed. All was good for about a week. Now back to squeaking again. Sometimes, it clears after the first few brakings. However, it sometimes returns if stopped at a store and then drive after it sits for a bit... I hate driving a $49k vehicle and listening to it squeak.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks!

Spray the pads with WD40 and it will stop....... Kidding.....

Did dealership state why they replaced rotors? That is usually due to wear/warpage and perhaps something in the brake system is causing them to drag causing rotors to prematurely warp.

Okay, they are heavily sprayed... going to roll down the large hill towards our busiest intersection and test them out... : )

All the dealer stated was they didn't like the 'pattern' they saw on the rotors, so they wanted to replace them... I'm going to call them back up and let them know I am still having issues. I was curious if this is a common problem many have seen, or if I'm just the lucky one...

Squealing brakes generally means steel on steel vibrating. You can ask the dealer or any garage to install stainless steel shims. There are other aftermarket products that are like heavy duty silicone designed for disc brakes. If you do a lot of light braking your pads can get glazed. A few hard stops may fix it. But I am guessing you want this fixed under the 1 year/12000 mile factory warranty. Go back to dealer.

This does not directly answer your question. Some brake technology background including squeeking.

The brakes that came on my wife's used Mini squeaked, but only when reversing out of the driveway, in low temperatures. We never did try to solve that one, since it was such a narrow set of circumstances that caused the noise. When the brakes finally wore out, the new ones were whisper quiet.

Brake squeaks can be a challenge sometimes. Good luck your troubles.

I have my '18 JLRU at the shop right now. The brakes have been squeaking since about 3000 miles. I now have 23,000 on them and finally decided to take it in to be looked at. It squeaks on start up but after I drive it a couple miles the squeak goes away. The dealer just called and said absolutely nothing is wrong with the pads or rotors and that everything looks fine. I guess that is good news but the squeaking still makes it sound cheap and embarrassing. Another post mentioned something about friction compound on the pads? Im not sure but if anyone know what is going on, I would love to know...

Could be glazed pads. I am not sure what type of material the factory pads are but since it is out of warranty you could try some ceramic pads. I always had good luck with them with the added bonus of brake dust doesn't stick to the wheels View attachment 257232 . If you are looking for a brand, Wagner is good. Only drawback is they are a little more expensive.

I have an appointment with the dealer Thursday morning. When I called to make the appt, they stated "with the semimetallic pads the government has us use now and the moisture, it's not uncommon for squeal." I commented that I understood that, but none of my other vehicles are having the issue, the Jeep is the only one doing it... With that, they said they would need to look at it again, so I setup the appointment.

Have you tried heating them up with a handful of hard stops? In my old car at least, with Brembos, if I drove too gingerly for too long (commuting) the rotors would build up a coating on them and cause squeaky brakes. A few hard 60-10 stops in a row would get them hot enough to clear that layer and they'd be back to normal after that.

I have not tried that but certainly will. I think I will wait though until after the dealer takes a look Thursday as I want to hear what they have to say first. Thanks for the suggestion!
