Yes, the wheels (rims) are the exact same size. Many people have Rubicon stock tires on Sport S wheels/rims. Sahara, on the other hand, comes with stock 18-inch rims.According to the Jeep.com web site, both the Wrangler Sport and the Wrangler Rubicon are equipped wheels sized 17 inch x 7.5 inch.
Are the wheels actually the same size or is there a third factor I have missed?
.
It's actually more like 0.125" higher. That is, if we're talking Rubicon wheels+tires on a Sport/Sahara model that has no additional modifications. The tires used on the Rubicon by themselves are about 0.25" taller by my measurements with a level and tape measure. So, divided in half you're looking at only 1/8" of added ground clearance.I think you’ll sit .62” higher with stock Rubicon wheels on a non-Rubicon.
Very nice. I love the Rubicon wheels. Looking for a set of takeoffs myself.Replaced mine last week
Highly recommend! It felt like a lot of money but it feels worth it. I think it lifted it about 2 inches. Here’s a little before and after.Very nice. I love the Rubicon wheels. Looking for a set of takeoffs myself.
The difference between the sport wheels and rubi wheels is only about 1.2" but it seems like so much more.Highly recommend! It felt like a lot of money but it feels worth it. I think it lifted it about 2 inches. Here’s a little before and after.
Totally agree that keeping the stock Sport steel wheels and tires gives it that "vintage" look. That's what's so great about Jeeps -- something for everyone and all different types of styles and preferences.I bought a set of Rubi take-offs but I ultimately decided I like the all black steel Sport wheel better, so I moved them along. The 2 door JL looks so right with the Goodyear A/T tires and the steel wheels. It almost looks vintage- a real safari truck.
If I’d gotten a Sport S or a Sahara I’d definitely have put the Rubicon wheels on. The Sport wheel and the Rubicon wheel are the only two JL wheels I like. I don’t think I’m alone in that assessment.
