He's completely full of shit.
If he really thinks FCA doesn't want to sell many, yes, he would be. Of course they do. I wouldn't be surprised if the 6.4 crate engine is less expensive to FCA than the 2.0 crate engine. My guess is they had to solve some of the cooling issues and crash safety with the diesel/gladiator, so that probably helped pave the way for this.

Overall though, they won't let this reduce their CAFE #'s -- so they must have something else planned to offset it, because reduce it will.

It's not just that statement, it's every comment he's made on this thread.

Trying to give him the benefit of the doubt =)

I'll bet it's every bit of $80k. My 6cyl Rubicon was $63k as it is. Add in the cost of the Engine, the Engineering needed to make it work, the extra strengthening needed for a lot of other drivetrain parts, AND the fact that they're going to make it a "special" option/trim/package, I think it will easily add another $17k to current pricing.
Oh man I though I was the only one that built a Rubicon over 60k.

I actually think if they think they're gonna launch this with the standard issue M210/220, they're gonna have to make it AWD just to try to spread the load.

This is honestly the part that baffles me the most - I'm guessing the axles will have to get a D60-ish refresh for production models. ESPECIALLY if they're talking factory 37's (which I think will become 35's for production models). You just can't put 450hp thru the M220 rear and expect it to live.

Yes, I understand guys run stupid power thru things like the Ford 9" at the track, BUT SERIOUSLY off-road use is VERY, VERY different. I've seen Ford 351M's (~150hp stock) on 33's break Ford 9"s on the trail.

Track and trail = different worlds

I thought fca said there wasn't enough crumple zone for the v8 and it would end up in your lap in a frontal collision?
Maybe after they failed the small frontal overlap with a rollover, they just said "lets run with it"

Lots of replies already but Iā€™m a little confused here.

1) no half doors on this ā€” the ā€œconceptā€ had half doors

2) no red interior ā€” itā€™s clearly black

3) no 392 written on that hood

how can anyone be sure this isnā€™t just a wrangler with a different hood?

we can't be sure, but... scooped hood (used on mojave and 392 concept), JT grill inserts (used on JTs and 392 concept), 4-outlet muffler(only on 392 concept), beadlock wheels (only on 392 concept).

It looks like it has the same wheels as the 392 concept too. This may just be a mule so it may not have all the options on it. Or since it was a concept it may not come with everything that was on the concept show vehicle.

We canā€™t be. There are strong giveaways in the pictures with credible sources that lead us to draw the conclusions made in the first post of this thread but... they may add up to nothing.

Iā€™m going to change the subject ever so slightly. Whatā€™s in the picture below is certain. Feel free to tell us what you see in the picture below:
