Here is the most detailed look to date of a next-generation 2018 Jeep Wrangler (JL) prototype which we were able to capture running on public roads.

This four-door JL Wrangler Unlimited was heavily camouflaged but thanks to a slip of the vinyl panels covering the door, we are able to see that the JL Wrangler will retain the exposed exterior door hinge mechanisms as well as similar door cut-lines as the current model which help to preserve the rugged and iconic design cues that have been the hallmark of the Wrangler.

The roof design and side mirrors also hint at classic Wrangler details that show the JL Wrangler will be a more subtle change.

Out front, we are able to see what appears to be new lighting placed on the front facing portion of the outer wheel arches. While the full design is obscured by the camouflage it appears like the little detail we can see will add some modernization to the front fascia, perhaps with the much rumored LED headlights.

As for the tail lights, the prototype shows simple units that are nearly indistinguishable from the current Wrangler.

Nice closeups! JL shaping up to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary in design changes. Definitely looks like european style front bumper underneath there since it extends out so much. Probably joins the side fenders too.

Where was this?

So looks like we're switching to Goodyear Duratrac tires?

That looks like strategically lifted camo. I wish they pulled it off more to see any signs of removable roof or panels.

Definitely more rake angle to the windshield, but not too dramatic a change. I don't mind this change.

The other prototype posted in the other thread with different plates also had these tires so my guess is we're gonna see a switch from the current Bridgestones.

I dont mind the windshield angle, it is the front bumper and wheelbase I'm worried about. Although I have to say I am surprise they didn't do a little more (based on what we can see) given how long between JK--JL platforms.

Sweet pics showing lots more little details than before.

Tail lights look normal and not the X ones from the Renegade. THANK GOODNESS. Those lights are so gimmicky looking.

We would've booed them into changing it before production! I still worry we might get it. This is probably a powertrain/drivetrain prototypes and uses some outgoing parts. Hopefully those are the production intent lighting design in there.

Either the mirror moved up or the door and window line are a bit lower than on the JK. No change on the tail lights from the current JK lights but I bet that it changes for production. We might even get a peek at it later on more advanced prototypes. Whats changed on the car right now is probably just what actually needs to be changed for engineering or testing purposes. The purely cosmetic changes can be installed at any time.

Google the European bumpers and you'll see they stick out by about as much as this one does under the camouflage.

Why are we all of the sudden getting European bumpers when the current one works fine and looks better? Long bumper like that gives you worse approach angles.

Probably the easiest way for them to hide any changes to the front fascia.

This is the photo that makes me think the rumors of a fixed roof are true.

It's hard to tell but seems like a more traditional roof line to me and no provision for a sport bar.
