All base models are the biggest sellers in large volume products, and retiring the old base and introducing a high floor is a way to up-sell. They wouldn’t drop a tier, but they would very easily make the new base the Willys instead. It would still outsell the Rubi and Sahara, just filter out more of the barely-can-afford when they may have more demand than supply.

For a cutthroat marketing/accounting profit-maximizing perspective, the thing to do would have been to introduce the JL with only Willy, Sahara, Rubi level trims, and then when the eagerness died down, only then offer the Sport and Sport-S. However, it looks like they decided to keep the low hanging fruit accesible to the masses by “holding-on to the base model too”.

6spd only on V6 gas
That’s not a model, that’s an engine; and physics is why you can’t have it on other options.

With the high first gear ratio, the torque rating is bound to be lower on a small MT, likely around 400NM instead of 500+NM.

2 Door.

Watch that first video in the thread with the videos. The design guy goes into all the details.

First, the half door is a mock up at the show. He said it when opening them.
Second, there are two square holes on the top. Inserts will fit.
Third, he said "fabric uppers".
Fourth, he said "think about being a kid in the back with half doors you can see through". So they'll be on both models.
Fifth, he says they'll be available later. Sounds like we'll be able to get them on a new JL.

Not only was the video great - the designer was way wired into the wants of us Jeep folks. Said he has a YJ and TJ. Nice.

There may be too many options with these JLs... I'm gonna need more than one.

Well yes, different engines are options, not models. The manual transmission will be available in all 3 models. All 6 if you consider 2door/4door.
Manual trans on v6 only and of course 2 or 4 door. But turbo 4 and diesel are auto

Again, that’s an engine option, not a model or trim level.

Of course you’ll get either transmission regardless sport, Sahara or rubi...that’s obvious...

Ugh. Those are the MODELS. Engine/transmission choice is an option within those MODELS. Every MODEL comes standard with the V6/manual transmission. Changing the engine/transmission would be an option.

And why we can’t have a manual option on all models blows!

Yikes! Everyone relax a little huh?

danzy, you have to understand people don't know what you mean, only what you write/say. You said "models". Now I realized what you meant. Others took to correcting your error.

Do you get it yet? A 6-speed can be had on all models. As long as you order the pentastar. The model doesn't dictate getting the manual or not. The engine does. Your probably unintentional error did start all this though.

Everyone good? Now it can be dropped?

Would be sweet if you could get both sets of doors as an option

Does the turbo engine come with the half doors MODEL, or does the manual only come with the cup holder?

Just kidding of course. This threat turned funny.
