I usually have my music/radio at volume 10 and the sound system did a decent job.

It seems when my Jeep is backing up with rear sensors beeping (detecting obstacles), the music/radio (if you are playing them) will be tuned down to help you better hear the beep sound.

However, once you put it in forward, the volume will stay at the "tune down" level and stay that way for a while. I have to turn the volume up to 15 to hear the music or whatever, and it is just the music/radio, the system sound is still at the same level and apparently is too loud for me at 15.

I think this is a software bug and probably have to be fixed by software updates. I do not think the dealer can fix it. The only way I found can prevent this, is muting the music before backing, and unmute it after backing.

I haven't noticed that myself. Usually I listen to AM news radio with a volume of around 7. When I go out of reverse the radio sounds to me like it goes back to the same volume. Have you had the issue with a specific input or does it happen with everything?

What I have noticed is my beeps seem to be kind of stereo. Meaning, if an obstruction is detected on the left then the beep will come from the left speakers, obstruction on the right comes from the right speakers. An obstruction in the back will beep on all speakers.

Hi plex,

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention - have you had the chance to mention this to your dealer? I'm not aware of this concern, but they might be able to compare your vehicle to other like models to see if this issue is unique to your radio.

Yeah, it happens randomly, but happened with both XM and USB. I say half time it will go back to the same volume, the other half did not and I cannot replicate it on my will, so it is really not worthy it to visit my dealer.

You have to turn the volume down while the phone is ringing! Same thing for conversation on the phone, If the conversation is too loud coming through your speakers turn the volume down while talking! At least that is how mine works and other vehicles that Iā€™ve had with Bluetooth also. Same thing with your navigation, turn the voice down while the navigation lady is talking or turn it up while she is talking.

I apologize in advance for the excessive detail but I'm hoping this can help us all to figure out what the heck is going on.

I have had my volume drop lower on 3 occasions now in the last 6 weeks. The first time was backing up with the obstacle detection warning me about the side of my garage door opening as I was backing out. The second time this occurred, I'm not sure what steps caused it.

The third time happened was about an hour ago
. I usually listen to media on USB stick but I had listened to AM radio when I last shut down the Wrangler. When I started it up, the AM radio played normal volume. I backed out of my drive and the obstacle warning beeped several times but the radio volume returned to normal after the beeps. Once on the road I switched to SiriusXM and the volume was normal. After 2-3 minutes I switched to "Media" and my USB stick was in port 3 (back seat). When switching to USB it defaults to port 1 so it did not play. I selected USB 3 and the music played but the volume was too low.

I usually listen around volume 15 and I had to turn it up over 20 for the same normal volume. I checked and the USB, FM and Sirius XM were all at a lower volume level than normal.

In the past this volume issue did not fix itself after waiting overnight so I had pulled the radio fuse to reset the radio, which worked. The second time I also pulled the fuse. This time I really didn't want to pull the fuse because I lose all of my settings and although I have been able to back up my settings to a USB drive, I have never been able to restore the settings back.

So, I got to thinking about all of the things that might automatically adjust the stereo volume -- noise cancellation, speed related volume control, backup sensors. I then thought I might try remote starting since I think that mutes the stereo until you open the driver's door. So when I next approached my Wrangler I used the remote start. When I opened the door the volume was back to normal.

My fingers are crossed that this issue can be fixed in firmware and that the remote start works when this happens again. It is happening every couple of weeks for me.

I figured it out completely, if your drive routine include start up and immediately back up (like out of garage), then do it slowly. Let uConnect boot completely (Logo screen and accept) before move your car, I have used this method and 100% the volume will not go down.

An alternative is once you start up the Jeep, press mute to mute the music, and after back up press mute again to unmute. Once you do this many times, it becomes memory sequence.

Thanks Plex. I'll try muting.

DriftyD. My Rubicon was built in November. Do you know how new the flash is?
Thanks.

I originally took my vehicle into the dealership in December for the issue I was having and they notified me that a flash update was becoming available sometime in February which is why I just had it done to my jeep, so I am assuming this is the latest.

This happened to me for the first time, today. Itā€™s still in the ā€œvolume is lowā€ state, actually. Very annoying.

I have 22,000 miles and over a year behind the wheel. Strange that I only just encountered this. I *think* it happened because I parked backed up to a fence and left it in reverse (I have a manual). Upon starting, I threw it in 1st and took off without waiting for the radio to boot up. My guess is I freaked out the backup sensor beep thing.

Bah! I either have to connect my Tazer to reboot the radio or yank the fuses and lose my settings. First world problems!

I don't know order of events but I know that normally 20 with the top off is plenty and today it was really low. Going to try this after it sits. Wait for the logo, etc.. then see if back to normal.

It's odd cause the system beeps are still really loud so I suspect it is stuck in the scenario described above.

It's just overall not as full sounding as yesterday.

Pulling the fuse to get it to reset and see if that helps
