So I went to test drive a manual JL unlimited and noticed the clutch has ridiculously long travel requiring me to sit too close for comfort to reach it. Are there any recommendations for clutch extenders? Saw someone write something similar in another thread but no real recommendations... if there are none I guess Iā€™ll go with the automatic at that point

Got my manual a week ago and agree I have to sit close. Thought it was just me.

The only time the clutch HAS TO GO ALL THE WAY DOWN--is to start-

The rest of the time the clutch can be depressed only half way for shifts--

It's a HYDRAULIC CLUTCH--find your happy medium--

Good luck

Yeah I'm with JIMBO. I test drove a manual JL last week and was blown away by how much more enjoyable it was compared to the JK. The clutch in the JL was more precise and I felt like the sweet spot actually let me sit a bit farther away from the steering wheel in the JL.

And oh the shift box!! Wow it was so much tighter in the JL. The shift box in the JK was just super sloppy

Heh Heh, you're welcome, but it's pretty hard to overcome that desire/demand to depress it completely--

If you find a happy medium, it'll make driving a little easier-

Good luck

Just to get this straight, clutch dont have to be all the way down? Al other cars i have driven its was either all the down or completely off.

I'm not sure if you're being serious or poking fun at other users, but no you don't have to push the clutch all the way down to change gears.

And the amount you'll need to depress the clutch isn't even always constant. You'll generally need more clutch in (numerically) lower gears, but as you get in higher gears, you barely need a tap of the clutch pedal to shift up. Hell, if you match the engine and tire speeds, you don't need to use the clutch at all.

If any of this is confusing, you likely don't fully understand how a clutch works. I'd recommend some Googling!

Sure. Wouldnā€™t this depend on the vehicle and the travel required for the clutch to be engaged? I imagine all cars are a little different in the pedal travel location of when the bearing engages the pressure plate.

Iā€™ve driven sticks my entire life and just always depressed the clutch pedal all the way also. Iā€™ve never been one to try power shifting or speed shifting.

I tested a manual JL Sport S a while back. Did not notice that the clutch travel was excessive. I enjoyed the clutch/Manual trans operation on the JL. I daily drive a manual Mazda 3, for comparison of what I am used to, for what it's worth.

you can make yourself a clutch stop to reduce the travel of the clutch pedal arm. It doesnā€™t take much and will improve the feel.
