I dont see why they would replace a manifold for a check engine light... What engine? The manifold has nothing to do with the start stop... And id be happy if it was a software fix rather than mechanical... It sounds like the dealership is just baffled and are throwing parts at the car... There is no "software" that will just supress the check engine light... Usually a flaah just means they are updating config files for a module or something of that nature ... Techs at dealerships are human as well and mistakes happen i wouldn't want them tearing apart everything if there isnt a problem.... Do you know what codes your jeep was throwing to cause the cel?

They've also swapped out the throttle body and a sensor of some sort. I wish I knew exactly what was happening with the codes, but it's remained in the shop, so I have no paperwork. After the initial attempt at a fix, my invoice referenced "erratic readings," whatever that means...

That's a great point, but my confusion here is that the Jeep engineers were involved from day 1 (a month ago) because the dealership claimed never to have seen my error code before, and those engineers were the ones directing the part replacements. As far as I can tell, the software tweak was a dealer-initiated repair made to the surprise of the corporate folks, and it is being described to me as a fix to prevent the check engine light from coming back on. Maybe there's more going on, but it's certainly not being communicated to me. Moreover, Jeep has yet to issue anything resembling an apology for this mess, which seems like step one in the customer service manual. I can guarantee you I'd be far less frustrated at this point if the Jeep representatives had started out expressing some sympathy for my situation and apologizing for the inconvenience.
They're already involved. I have a case number and have exchanged numerous emails and phone calls. I suppose if I asked point blank for an apology, they'd give it, but the tone has already been set. My point is just that some sympathy upfront (weeks ago) would have gone a long way.

Thanks all for the responses. After replacing the intake manifold and updating the software, the Jeep was pronounced fixed last Friday. They tested it quite a bit (based on the extra 104 miles on the odometer since I dropped it off), and it worked through the weekend just fine, but this morning the light is back on. Anyway, back to the dealer it goes again, and Jeep is evaluating my buyback request. It's a shame, because it would otherwise have been an awesome vehicle.

Hello,
I am new to this forum and only because I traded in my 2015 JK which I never had issues with for a 2018 JL unlimited Sport. I had driven it under 550 miles when the service engine light went on. I took it to an Autozone where they cleared the code but it came back on. The light was for an leak in the eval. The dealer had my JL for over a week and stated they repaired the issue. I noticed the engine light turn on and off quickly when it is turned on. I suspect they reprogrammed the software and not necessarily fixed the issue. Does anyone have a recommendation on where I can take the JL to ensure this is not the case? Thanks for any feedback!
