Just got back from the dealer a bit ago, despite showing them pictures they didn't find anything. This happens quite often at highway speeds windows up or down but now is starting to happen at lower speeds too. Pic below is from a short trip to the store, max speed was only 50 or so.

This just happened to me today for a second time. I figured the first time was something I might have done wrong, but I'm certain everything was locked in properly this time. All of my windows were closed and was going around 70mph. I just hear a pop and it's gone. Now I've got to go spend another ~$400 on a new quarter window. We really shouldn't have to fabricate something to keep these windows on.

So sorry to hear this. Was the lost window the early design with black tabs or the later style with green tabs?

It was one with the green tabs. This also happens to be the same window I replaced last time. The rest of the top still has the black tabs.

My passenger side window blew out yesterday morning on the freeway. Only had the jeep 2 weeks and dealership said it can't be covered under warranty since I don't have the window. Apparently Jeep wants people to risk their lives on freeways.

@JeepCares is this really Jeep's policy? New Jeep, window blows out, Jeep will only cover it under warranty if I play Frogger on the freeways in Atlanta?

I would escalate to Jeep Cares. I got mine covered and now I never put the windows in without zip ties.

Yeah I just reached out to them via phone. They are going to see if they can get it covered under warranty. I may do your zip tie method once it get it so I don't go through this again.

Do you have anything at the top to help secure the window in case the zip tie fails at 70mph? I don't understand why Jeep didn't add 2 or 3 snaps along the top vs. the lone Velcro patch up front.

No. I can't pull the window off the tailgate bar holder once the zip tie is in. IMO that corner is the weak link in the system and if it lets go, there is nothing to stop the window from popping out. She has the Bestop Trektop Ultra and there is a strap with a snap that attaches to the tailgate bar retainer. That is where I got the idea for the zip ties.

I have not had the windows blow out, but I have experienced the drivers side window getting pulled out of the front edge channel. I was driving with the soft top in the sun rider position, door windows up and soft top windows in place. It was a windy day, so windy that I had the door windows up. Anyway, driving about 60 I heard a loud rush of wind, and the sound seemed to change. I looked in my mirror to see if the window had blown out, it was still there but the top leading edge of the drivers side (top corner) was pulled away from the jeep a few inches and catching wind (not the 20 mph wind that day, but the 60 mph "wind" from driving through the air).

I pulled over and got out to look. The top corner was out of the Velcro, the top was pulled back to the tube channel, and the front edge was pulled out of the channel from the top to about 6 or 8 inches down. I put everything back the way it was and had no further problems with it.

I went around to the passenger side to check that window and noticed the Velcro almost completely peeled away (roof from the side window). I stuck it back in place and had no trouble with it.

Later, I did some testing and noticed something. If you really stick the velcro together tight with the top closed and windows in position, then open the top to the sun rider position, that velcro will peel back almost off the windows. I think I was pulling them together to tight, trying to keep that leading edge from coming loose; but I ended up making it so tight, that when the roof needed to flex for the sun rider position, it was pulling the Velcro corner loose. Once that top corner comes loose, it catches all sorts of wind and will start to separate from the channels.

Lesson: don't tightly tuck the velcro in position, just let it rest where it sits on the window and give a firm rub. This will allow some flex when you put the roof back and keep the window panels down tight.

I don't know that this is what happened to some of you, but it is something to look out for...

So I was putting the windows in yesterday ana noticed that there is an extension of the lower tab that will tuck in around the corner of the tub. I hadn’t noticed that extension before and I figure that it was not properly tucked in and that was the main reason that the the window blew out. I’m still tying them in with zip ties but this is probably the reason.
hollyyyyy shit.
I just went outside and sure enough that part wasn't in.
I managed to rearrange the side window a bit and I've NEVER heard the back pillar of the window click in with such a satisfying click!
I'm so glad I read this!

Not sure if this is the post that I mentioned this, but if you look at the top of the pic, you will see the hole 1/4” hole that I drilled in the stiffener. There is a matching hole in the tailgate retainer and I zip tie the window to the tailgate retainer every time the soft top goes up.

I always tuck that corner tab in so that wasn't my issue. Mine is that the plastic channels are opening up allowing the window to pop off the track at the top. Jeep cares told me there was nothing they could do, my local dealer service center told me to use velcro to hold the top down better. Neither fixed the issue nor do they even care.

If your JL is still in warranty, this should be covered. I'd try another dealer too...this one sounds terrible.

I'm sorry, but this is total BS. They should just put the damn zippers back.
