Soft top question. What do you do with your rear window when you put your soft top down?

I’m curious what y’all do with your rear window when you put the soft top down? There’s not a great place to put it where it will not get a crease in it. Anyone have some insight? I’ve kind of stood it up behind the back seat with the cross bar resting in the wheel wells, but it still sags and gets a bit of a crease. Thought?

With the JK it was very common to remove the rear window form the rear window bow and then roll the window in a soft towel with a cut down pool noodle in the center to keep the roll round. Window bow went back into its spot on the Jeep. I don’t have my JL yet but I don’t know why that wouldn’t work.
I had a towel and piece of pool noodle in a sleeping bag pouch so I could get it contained in the back. The side windows used to fit in there too but now with the molded corners I doubt it would.

I use the Mopar Soft Window Storage Bag. It straps to the back of back seats.

Back and the 2 sides should come out before dropping. Storage bag if doing away from home...just bring the windows inside if initiating at home.

I'd love to find a bag that I could put them in and hang them over the back seat while driving but I guess I need to keep searching.

Yes, that's what I've read. I am going to wait until someone comes up with a bag that is designed a little differently to prevent creasing. I'll just throw towels between them for now.

Here is my solution for the windows I wrote a DIY thread on this ONLY $49 on Amazon

My JLU Sahara came with no soft top just the hard-top, so I found a member here on the forum with a Soft Top for sale and just purchased it. Now I am in Washington and will not even install the soft top until next April/May. Storing the top and frame itself is easy on the wall of the Garage, however the windows are a bigger challenge. In many of the popular Jeep part sites/stores they only obvious option was the Mopar window bag at $170 which is way overpriced for a canvas bag and even then with the windows stored in it it is too big to fit in the back of the Jeep.

After looking at other options like various JK bags I found this on on Amazon for $49, I figured what the hell I will give it a try.

The bag arrived and I was impressed with the quality and the size assuming the windows fit, actually fits like a glove in the cargo area of the JLU.

For the back window I removed the bottom bar and then Used a light weight packing blanket rolled up with a couple straps, and since the window was too long I used the rolled up blanket for support so I could fold the back window without it creasing.

Here it is all windows stored in the bag, as you can see it fits perfectly in the cargo area or can be hung or stood up

There is even room left over for other items like a Bikini top or ???

I have since purchased the Diabolical Slipstream security enclosure that the window bag fits into perfectly. This allows me to lock the windows and and anything else that fits, this is a large lockable storage enclosure.

You can also use a swim noodle instead of a blanket/towel for the fold, when I did this it was winter so no noodles available

Everyone should note you DO NOT want to stand Bags up with the windows, this is the problem with the Mopar Bag in that when it is hot out the plastic loses all rigidity and they collapse in the standing bag, there have been some reports of windows then creasing and being damaged. Mopar did not think that out. This bag with windows stored like I did fit perfect in the bed and no risk of damage even on the hottest days.

I don’t have my JLU or mopar bag yet, but do you think you could put 2 or 3 cut down pool noodles vertically in the bag to give more rigidity? It would have to make the bag a tight fit to keep the windows from falling, not sure if the bag is designed in a way that would work or not.

There is room for that the problem is not the bag standing but the window plastic gets really soft so the issue is how to you keep the windows upright

Don’t overthink it, just get the Mopar bag and call it day. If you’re worried about it creasing, don’t stand it upright. Or leave it at home.

Storing the indows has been a pita! Theyre BIG and trying to find a spot at home where someone wont move them or knock them down, etc has been a chore in itself.

I can post a pic later but i have large sheets of styrofoam that i bought at shipping supply store that i used for lining long shipping boxes. About 2” thick by 24” wide and 4’ long. Nice and rigid. You just cut to size. Super light obviously.


Edit: whoa that trunk cover is expensive. Ill pass on that lol. I just leave my windows at home. No need to suddenly install. And i never leave anything in the jeep that id have to worry about being stolen. But i could easily see how others would benefit from that
