We all know how much easier it is to crack/break a Wrangler windshield due to the much more upright angle of the glass compared to other vehicles.

If you need to replace the acoustic windshield, are you going to be limited to replacement at the dealer? Will the cost be incredibly higher?

Or will it simply be a “one and done”, not replaceable?

Hmmm....

My Tacoma has the same kind of windshield. About 2 months into ownership, I ended up with a giant split running across it. Called to have it changed......$1200. Still rockin my broken w/s, no pun intended.

My wife's Subaru outback has accoustic glass and heating elements built into the base where the wipers sit, it also has Subaru eyesight and requires clear glass in the camera area. She got a crack early on and it cost $1200 to replace. However, a low(er) comprehensive deductible of about $200 makes it a much easier pill to swallow.

My recommendation to everyone worried about it is to set your comprehensive deductible to a lower amount just in case.

I replaced one in a F-150. After it’s been out a bit, replacements should be easy to find. My first one only lasted 3 months on my 2014 and my 2018 got a chip in it 6 weeks in.

Exactly! small deductible and based on your insurance, should never affect rates. (mine doesn't) the after market, like Apple Glass etc.., will be able to order the replacement from the dealer, if they don't have it in stock.

Word to the wise: If ever you get a chip that's close to the edge, LEAVE IT ALONE. That's where i had it on my Tacoma. I called to have the chip repaired to keep it from spreading. The tech tells me before he starts "There's a 50/50 shot it'll spread when I start to apply vacuum". "Hell, 50/50 is damn good odds at a casino. Go for it" I replied. Soon as he puts the machine on, it spread like butter on hot down hill skillet. DANG. Then he says "Yeah, most of the time, when its close to the edge like that, it'll spread". I said "What the hell happened to 50/50?!"

It continues to spread to this day, oddly enough, in the shape of a penis. No kidding.

On my insurance policy, lowering the "Other than Collision" deductible to $0 was like $5/month I think. I've had enough windshield cracks to realize what a good deal that was.
