Maybe now is a good time to ask for a 392 hemi swap? Offer to pay the difference? ?‍♂ Worst they can say is, “Uh no, dude.”

I think that is a bit of an extreme exaggeration. Happened to me and it didn't blow my engine. Several thousand miles post repair and I am good. I also know several other 2.0 owners all with many more miles than mine and only 1 other has had this coolant leak problem.

Is it an issue? Yup and they have said so but to say engines are blowing left an right is a gross exaggeration. Most of the blown engines are probably due to people continuing to drive on an overheating engine.
The driver is what causes the engine damage. The leak is what’s ridiculous.

Yes, very few buyers will be interested in a vehicle with a new engine in it.
The next buyer may not even know that it was replaced depending on what gets reported to CarFax. It could say engine replaced or it could simply state "RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE PERFORMED"

Myself I have been looking at used Audi's to replace our old A7 and I specifically look at the CarFax to see what was done to it. I have a very good understanding of what the brands Achilles Heel is on different models and I look for that work being performed If it has not been done I know its a ticking timebomb waiting to go off. If something said it had a new motor installed then that is typically a plus if there is no more serious problems reported post replacement.

Then you have probably over half of the buying public that have no clue what a CarFax is and how to read it.


For the OP: When you get the Jeep back, specifically ask if that GDMFing bolt is tight on the new engine.

A new engine will usually be better than a rebuilt engine. Rebuilding an engine requires a great deal of knowledge and experience.

You should be okay after the replacement has been done.

All of this because someone didn't tighten a bolt properly...

My dad blew an engine in an XK8. He had his buddy's shop replace the engine with a brand new one and then sold it to my brother. My brother said it always drove like something was slightly off. It could have been because the shop was independant... but my brother has been using the same shop for AMGs and Porsches and they've always been fine.

I think your concern is warranted. It will probably turn out fine, but it could be a little off.

Run the numbers on keeping it vs selling it... see what makes you most comfortable.

I don't think most buyers would care if its a new engine installed properly. The vehicle will still be covered by the 60k powertrain warranty.

So if its sold anytime soon, the buyer is covered. And if he runs it for 52k miles until the warranty is done, then the motor has proven itself as properly installed.

My coolant blew at 8400 miles too!! 8 months old, with the 3.6L V6. Luckily, I pulled over immediately and shut it down so no further damage was done to the motor, but strange to see these new 2022s blowing coolant so early!

It seems that hasn't changed much, no matter how many nannies the manufacturers put in these new vehicles. In the old days of only "idiot lights", they came on when it was too late and many people put getting to their destination ahead of stopping for a light. Now, those same type of people expect a vehicle will have enough sell-preservation systems to protect it from a catastrophic failure. So, they just keep driving. The overwhelming percentage of the population is not mechanically inclined and can't be bothered with learning about something as trivial as their transportation. Never mind that people that travel extreme climates in remote areas bet their lives on a vehicle with little/no redundancy regularly.

These newer engines are putting out more power per displacement than ever before, in the pursuit of performance and economy. The margins between normal and the limits are closer.

I feel you on this.

The scary part tho...is when you have no lights at all while the situation is happening. No codes, no smoke, no leaks, nothing to indicate you have a problem until it is too late.

That's precisely what happened with mine. I'm definitely mechanically inclined and have wrenched on all the vehicles I've owned. This is the first one that had a coolant problem (leaked into the block thru blown head gaskets) that never gave me any type of warning until my cylinders were warped. I noticed the rough idle (no error codes/lights displayed), shut it off popped the hood and found no coolant in my reservoir! This is the only reason I knew I had a problem.

Filled it up...checked it weekly...temps were fine, Jeep ran fine. I contacted my mech at the dealer and informed him of what happened. I brought it in to him (by this time the ESS light intermittently came on and off). He couldn't replicate the error code (none was stored), he thought it was an EGR cooler but it wasn't. He's been a mechanic for many years and is actually a certified Viper mechanic and he couldn't pinpoint my issue at the time.

Took it to another dealer and they looked further and took a look into the block and that's when all was discovered.

I think the lack of being notified by the Jeep is actually causing lots problems than the case of people receiving a light and just ignoring it (from what I've read on the forums anyway ?‍♀ )?

Hope your brother doesn't have any issues!

But glad to report that after my engine replacement, the Jeep is running beautifully. I hope it will continue to be this way lol...but since my incident and the advice received on this forum, I've put some procedures in place to make sure my issue doesn't creep up on me again lol.

Ive had Dodge replace an engine in my P/u years back. they did a good job all under warranty. first motor lasted 44K miles. the replacement was running good at 130K when i traded it in. You will get a New engine as it keeps the labor cost down for JEEP. I wouldnt worry to much about it. The Odometer can not be changed as the reset of the jeep has that many miles on it.

Nope not at all. most the time it helps Especially with the dealer doing the work

Thank you! My first engine went out at 61k miles (1k miles outside factory PTW). My EW kicked in and I received an engine replacement through it for a small deductible. Hoping I can get 200k miles on this next one! :sun:
