Nothing quite as dramatic as that for sure. I just get on the road, floor it and slam the brakes to see how the roads are, and go accordingly from there.
A lot of people should learn to do this when conditions are questionable. It provides invaluable information when going out into the elements.

Had to read this twice, thought this thread was turning from drugs to sex.

Seriously though, I'm jealous of you northern guys. I would love to drive through some deep snow. I'm in GA so when we get our annual 3/4mm dusting of snow, I'm in 4 low with lockers engaged and the sway bar disconnected while driving on city streets.

I work as an industrial maintenance technician. in the last 3 years, it's been big snowstorms on my on shift days. 2 stick out in my mind:

First:
I get home at 6:30am Sunday morning, from a Saturday night shift, and NOTHING is plowed in my apartment complex. I see my wife (who is then VERY pregnant) outside shoveling her car out (2015 Rav4). I grab the shovel from her, and tell her "You're mega pregnant- go back inside and let me take care of this." We have a giant snowblower. I mess with that for about a half hour before figuring out the fuel system is completely borked and is not getting fixed. So, I shovel out her car. At this point, it's coming up on 10am, and I have to be up at 3 to go to work that night. I'm tired, covered in sweat, hungry and just generally pissed at this point. I look at the 3 foot snow drift, drop the Rubi into 4low, lock the axles, in 2nd gear, and let it fly. Reverse, and repeat. i reverse out, and back in, roll back and forth a few times to make sure I'm not going to get stuck. shut down and head inside to go to sleep. My wife asks "Was that necessary?" to which my answer is "I'm going to sleep- I have to work tonight."

Second:
For the first time EVER- a giant snowstorm fell on my off shift day. Naturally, I spend the morning with my kids watching the snow fall on top of the already 2 ft of snow on my Jeep, because I'm not shoveling, I'm not going anywhere, I'm just going to play hot wheels with my kids and drink coffee. All my friends have winches or are working remote. the snow removal crew already cleared my wife's car with snowblowers and stuff. This is Thursday.
Friday, the snow stops, and I see my neighbor across the street and her husband shoveling out her Camry. she's throwing more snow in front of my Jeep with the big shovel, as her husband is hustling it off onto the lawn with a tiny shovel. judging from the Hand gestures the following conversation ensues:
Husband: What are you doing? Stop throwing snow in front of that Jeep
Wife: where am i supposed to put it?
Husband: <pauses, points to 3 different directions of the lawn>
Wife: <Throws shovel down, storms off inside>
Husband:<Shakes head, sticks shovel in snowbank, goes inside>
I laugh very hard.
That night, I have to clear my Jeep out so i can go to work on Saturday. I start it up, clean it off, shovel out just enough around the wheels and bumper to relieve pressure. Keep in mind, the drift is probably 3.5 feet in front of the bumper at this point. As I'm getting into the Jeep, I see the woman who shoveled snow in front of the Jeep earlier looking out the window. So, naturally, I drop it in 4low, 2nd gear, lock the axles and let the Jeep claw it's way out, throwing snow all over, first shot. As I'm doing some clean up, a Super Duty comes along and almost gest stuck in the snowbank I just climbed over. I ask "Are you in 4wd?", guy says he is, but the front wheels aren't moving. I tell him, he huffs, rolls up his window, and just mashes the throttle and barely gets out. Pretty sure his hubs weren't locked, but whatever.
I pull my jeep back in, shut down, and go back inside.

I'll have 37's this year for snow. I'm not shoveling.

Lifetime upstate NY resident. Nah man. It sucks. Especially when you have to go to work. If it was just for snowboarding, I wouldn't care, but having to wake up and drive to work in this sucks, especially when you're equipped and you share the road with people who insist their Fiat 500 with balding street tires can make it up this hill and slows you down on the way to work.

I have driven in a lot of snow in all kinds of different vehicles. Front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, all wheel drive 4x4, front engine, mid engine. Dedicated winter tires make more of a difference than anything. The real advantage of the Wrangler is its higher ground clearance.

We get plenty of snow here to have fun.

I must admit, the Selec-Trac with the rear LSD and a good set of ATs are the best combo for snow.

A photo is worth a thousand words. Here is some Jeep In Snow porn

So, 1998, living in Iowa, in the country south of Des Moines. Long driveway (1/4 mile+) leading to row of mailboxes. Sunday morning, February, 19ā€ fresh snow overnight, outside temp in the teens, windy. Looking for a nice ā€œsnugā€ morning at home. Decide to go see if the Sunday paperā€™s there (at mailbox). Dressed in my robe and slippers I step into the garage, fire up my trusty TJ, engage 4H and off I go. No problems -drive to the mailboxes and deliberately pullup REAL close to the box so I can just reach out and get the paper. Get the paper and start to head home -Jeep starts moving BUT is going slightly to the side TOWARD the mailboxesšŸ˜³. Shift to reverse-no dice, still moving but also pulling toward the mailboxesšŸ˜•. After a few minutes I becomes very obvious that, although the Jeep would definitely pull out of this mess, it is also clear that to do so Iā€™m gonna wipe out a row of mailboxes and dink the side of my Jeep. Crawled across the console and out the passenger door and walked back home (remember the robe and slippers?). No coat. By the time I got home my nice Sunday morning wasnā€™t looking so goo and my sweet and gentle disposition was rapidly evaporatingšŸ˜. Got dressed, boots and coat. Got my portable winch and walked back To the Jeep. Hooked the Winch up on the rear receiver. The only thing close by to use as an anchor was a very large sign for our small subdivision on two posts. Hooked the winch to the sign-clank, clank, clank goes the winch and to my horror I see the #!Ā£#& SIGN moving, Not the JeepšŸ˜’. Did I mention I was losing my sweet disposition? Walked Back to the house again, got the wife rousted out and fired up our 3/4 ton diesel Suburban. Went out, hooked a snatch strap to the Jeep. Wife pulled about 6ā€ and the Jeep pulled itself out with no issues. Put the strap up, wife drove the Suburban back to the garage and I drove the Jeep back with nary an issue. The only time Iā€™ve ever been stuck in snow in a Jeep, and even then, had I been bright enough not to stop it within 5 inches of the row of mailboxes sheā€™d have pulled herself out. Kinda ruined a nice quiet Sunday morninā€™ thoughā€¦.

Anyone notice that wibornz seems to be having an AWFULLY FUN retirement? Like no holds barred?

Yup, I'm kinda' jealous!

At least he and his better half share their great experiences with us!

An example to follow!
