Your setup looks awesome!

Could you take pics and take notes along the way? Very interested to see how this turns out. I think I recall a redditor doing a setup like this but attaching it to the cargo area and the backs of the rear seats so when the seats were folded down the bed was always available!
Will do. The 4.5 inch pad I bought will be too big to keep it there long term but is designed to be a sleeper sofa mattress so it will fold a little at least. This is my very not to scale poor drawing of the back. The dotted line is with seats back. I’m going to tape together some large paper and create a template. I’ve got an electric carving knife that is supposedly the best for cutting foam. I’ll see if I just want to fold the mattress cover under or take it to a local seamstress.

This topic makes me think my decision to get the wrangler wasn’t the best idea. The other option was the 4Runner but I’m hoping the top off and doors off experience this summer makes up for the lack of room when sleeping in the vehicle.

I’m curious to find out how others are sleeping in the back of their unlimiteds, especially couples.
How tall are you? Before I purchased my JLU, I jumped in the back and laid down. I fit without having to curl up.

Is that 72” length with the front seats all the way forward?

I’m 5’9”ish. I knew going into the JLU that I wouldn’t have the acreage as I would with other vehicles, I’m just hoping that the other features outweigh that. First time wrangler owner.

5'9" = 69". It's 74" long in the cargo area. What's your concern? Here are the detailed measurements - https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...ons-measurements-cargo-trunk-rear-seats.2258/.

There's always this option too.
I live with this for months at a time for work.

Yes, it’s 72” with seats forward. The 74” number would require them to be leaned forward. 72” is more realistic and it’s the standard height of most of the pads anyway. It’s 65” with the seats all the way back.

Absolutely not. If I can't fit a navy standard issue tiny rack mattress in the back, I can't sleep there. Tents though, work fine.
I'm not a fan of tents. Unless the tent is on top of the Wrangler.

Yeah, gators are definitely not tent friendly. I’m fine with tent in there use case. However pads work great for things like quick camping. I’ll often get to the drop zone or other location late ona Friday night and don’t want to deal with tent setup. It’s nice to just slide the front seats forward and you’re all setup. Used camping mats before but having a more elegant solution like the Nitepad in my first post is awesome. Campers are nice too but obviously a lot more money than 100-200 pad.

Made a template today. Pad and carving knife get here tomorrow but pad is supposed to fully expand before cutting according to a few sites I saw. Seems counterintuitive to me but I’ll post pics after cutting.
