That wouldn’t be possible to do without watering down or otherwise taking away what makes a Wrangler a Wrangler. The Lexus you mention is also a fixed roof vehicle where as the Wrangler at it’s core is a convertible or a vehicle with a removable top or now an open air semi-fixed top.. Besides if you look at the size of the rear window (height that is) is larger than the height of the rear gate, and they can’t make the rear gate taller because if follows the body lines.
I see what your saying, design change I'm thinking of would be specific to this top. Since Jeep is saying that you should not remove this top anyway makes this possible.

So in a way they're building a fixed top on a convertible body because its much cheaper then reinventing the whole vehicle when you already have one you can make slight changes to.

I'm aware that glass is larger then tailgate in this case the glass would simply not go all the way down, and it doesn't have to IMO since most of that will be hidden away by spare wheel anyway.

This should only be available on two doors with half doors. this looks so stupid on the unlimited.

The power top should have been an option on a regular hard top without the rear side window being able to be removed, that way the whole top can still be removed without the fear of having to line the rails up. This would have been a cool top option. instead they went with this top and I think it’s a fail especially with full doors.

As a 50+ er... I can tell you your generation is mostly the cream puffs.. no true explorer will buy this option, (unless $ are no object, and I can appreciate that as well)...

So lets be a little respectful of your elders son...
Thank you from another 50 plus year old...actually the market for this will be a some millennial and it will never touch the dirt.... lastly, it’s definitely nice being 50 and having played my cards right where $$ isn’t an issue.. I’ve earned that.

I love the whole idea of the Sky One Touch. On the days I take the doors off and there is a slight chance of light rain the top will be closed with the doors off.
Taking the doors off is a lot less work than removing the top for me. I will probably remove the doors more often.
The look is growing on me. You will be able to tell it is the sky one touch as I drive past you. I always envy the waver when they have a Jeep undressed while I have the windows rolled down.
Now I just have the bow tie.

Would have much rather had a panoramic moonroof on a non-removeable hard top. Hope they offer that eventually.

That's essentially what this is. The roll bar structure precludes there ever being a power glass/solid window, even if it slid outside the roof. And if the canvas power version is $4k, can you imagine what a re-engineered glass roof would cost? The one touch roof is as close as Jeep will ever get to what you want on a Wrangler.

that seems like a more logical option, and would drop cost by thousands - but that’s really just an SUV...

I’m talking about a solid body version, the way Landrover had a convertible and solid body version of the Defender.

A lot of us never take off the hard tops anyway. It would be appealing to me — a solid axle, better looking option to the Grand Cherokee. And there’s no reason they couldn’t eventually offer this if they wanted. Heck, I wouldn’t even mind a solid body with dual manual pop-up-and-out sunroofs.

I am not a fan of the look from the side....just looks odd to me.
I agree. At first, I was kind of bummed I couldn't order it, but now I'm really glad I didn't get sucked in because I think I would regret it pretty quickly.

For those who, like me, have been dying to see the power top-equipped JL with doors and windows off, here ya go!

Thank you for posting! I have been wanting this (or so I thought) with the diesel option... I do not like.... From other things i have read Jeep does not recommend fully removing the top either. Think i'll go with freedom top still.

Curiosity question: where the back side windows (the removable ones on the power top) interface with the vehicle on their bottom side, is there something inherently different about the JLU, as opposed to non power top JLU's, to accept these windows?

Rephase: let's just say for giggles that I decide to buy FCA's power top a year from now, already owning a JLU without one, assuming my local dealer does the install of the power top, would the tub of the JLU have to be modified to accept these back side windows at their bottom?

From the looks of the video it does not look like it would need to be modified at all.

The body is the same, the only different is the top that's attached to it.

Reality check: the power top is always a color matched option...I mean it's not like there's a black colored version, like for the hard (non-power) top that *can* go with non black colored JLs, correct?

Is it is conceivable one orders a power top, even in *painted* black, for a non black colored JL?......

(I do recognize the difference between a black hard top and a *painted* black colored matched hard top for a black colored JL...)

Thanks....

This is my personal opinion / speculation:

The power top is not recommended to be removed because of how massive it is and its structure. The top stretches across the whole jeep one piece and with the lack of side windows being fixed makes it even less rigid. Even with 2-3 people seems like it would be extremely hard not to twist and snap it.
