Sky-One - loud rattles in roof over Passenger/Driver Door!

I have a Sahara (1 month old). Loud rattles in roof section over both driver and passenger front door areas. Have had to dealer 4 times and they have absolutely no idea where the rattle is coming from. They have taken the roof section apart a few times and don’t want to continue to take it apart in fear that it will make it worse. Now of course my roof is leaking when it rains in one sport (right over driver seat where the roof meets the frame of the car in the far left corner).

Service manager drove 2 other Sky Ones on the lot and he said that my car is the most quiet out of the three. Seems like a manufacturing defect or just poor construction.

Anybody experiencing this??

Did you ride in those other 3 with the service manager? I have one and no rattles or leaks...yet. Plenty of others on this forum have no complaints. There are a few complaints around the removable window panels but not up front. I find it hard to believe that 3 in a row on the lot have the same problem. If they can't fix it, they will eventually need to replace it. Ask @JeepCares to get involved. It's worth a shot. That is an expensive top so you shouldn't have to live with those problems. Is there another dealership in your area that you could try?

I did ride in one of them with manager - it was rattling. He submitted a “case” to Chrysler for an engineer to review. Based upon that result I will look into a potential replacement option.

I’m pretty frustrated between the noise and the leak. He doesn’t want to fix the leak until he fixed the rattle. They want to address one at a time without moving too many things around.

My rear windows are quiet. I heard a loud rattle coming from the trunk for a while but realized it was the arm rest in the back seat not being properly secured. You really need to slam it closed into the seat in an upright position to secure it. There was metal on metal clicking unless it’s properly secured.

try to loosen the bolts along the rail on the side, then re-tighten them again (don't over tighten). it might fix it.

Ugh! $58k Rubicon and it rattles, oh and the passenger seat clunks now also.

It’s kind of a ticking, clicking noise you would hear in a old truck with plastic dash is the best way to explain it. And every little bump or imperfections in the road makes it Creek and rattle ... once I’m on super smooth new pavement I’m good. We hear it when sky one is open or closed. And it’s clearly up in the upper driver corner of the top. I mean my 2005 H2 rattles bad...but it’s 15 years old and has flimsy plastic...well everything inside.... also get that passenger seat clunk to hear and their. But the rattle make me wanna pull my hair out at 1000 miles.

I am having the same issue above my passenger side front. I noticed it on day 1 while driving it home from the dealership. I now have 650 miles on it and it is driving me nuts! The rattle noise seems to happen anytime there is any kind of flexing in that area. It almost sounds like 2 pieces of plastic rubbing against each other. The noise is constant! I have a appointment with the dealership this coming Friday but I’m worried they are not going to get anywhere. It is incredibly disappointing to want to drive your brand new 58k vehicle but be absolutely crazy 5 mins into the ride! I can’t even cover the noise with the radio unless it is turned up 25 or higher. I am curious if there is possibly loctite on the bolts holding the sky one rails together and it is causing the noise.

Hey dgpal2,

I feel your pain! The dealer solved the problem and it never came back. Something on the sky one roof is rubbing against the frame of the car. They actually removed the roof and inserted a thing piece of foam padding right between the roof and the frame in that area. Problem solved. Sometimes I hear very quiet rubbing above the driver door and I want them to do the same to that side but I’m hesitant that it will open a can of worms. Keep me posted.
